Critic Review - New Yorker

The movie may be a scare show that leaves many questions unanswered, but Scott's craft earns an exhausted kind of respect.

I wonder how much the reviewer was paid for writing such a terse, bland review?

I was asking myself the same question. Another question would be: did I just watch a different movie?

WHAT Questions are left unanswered? list them for me right now and I'll list a tonne of other movies that DON'T spoon feed the audience and that encourage a little thought and imagination that get reviews/rating scores of 90%... Prometheus is a phenomenal film and I was able to work everything out pretty much perfectly, it fits wonderfully with the alien universe and thats all I could've hoped for, but what I got was a spectacular, grand scale epic scifi thriller that was a movie in its own right while still being very much a part of the alien universe... I can't think of any one thing that I could use to deduct points from it... for me it was nigh on perfect. can't understand all this "raises more questions than it answers" crap... if that's how you felt coming out you obviously didn't pay attention

It's common that someone says Prometheus was weak, stupid or they didn't understand it to have another person reply and say, "Maybe you're not smart enough to understand this awesome masterpiece of sci-fi? Try watching it again.".

Let me clear up a few things. It was not a masterpiece or even a great movie. Many people argue quite well that it may not even be a good movie.

The best parts were the beautiful scenery and the concept. BUT, those two things were crushed by continuous common sense assaulting writing.

1)Idiotic underdeveloped characters (stooges) constantly doing stupid things to get people killed.

2) Stupid situations constantly created by very improbable conditions.

3) Undeveloped dramatic scenes which fail to deliver.

If you're unsure what I'm talking about read around. These weaknesses in the movie are listed everywhere.

No it wasn't terrible movie but for people who are fans of sci-fi expecting an intelligent and well rounded high quality movie it was undeniably a disappointment.

I gave Prometheus a 6/10

I agree 100% with your comments Tim C. Prometheus was a film "big" on scenery and the concept of man searching the stars for our origins. I really enjoyed the first part of the story, but once the crew discovered the massive structure on that distant planet, it really started to unravel for me. Stereotypical and one-dimensional characters with unrealistic dialogue and simply not believable motives. A Geologist, who looks like a punk rocker, and exhibits little intelligence, who is there to "dig rocks" and "in it because of the money?" Or a Biologist, who thinks alien life in the form of a worm / serpent) is "cute," - so let me get real close to it and try to pet it? Really? And these two nimrods have no clue on how to read a 3D map of the cavern / alien spaceship, so they get conveniently "lost" - to become the latest fodder for the baddie aliens that infest that world? And the captain, who is monitoring the Geologist and Biologist location, get's "tired" and turns in for the night, leaving the lost ground crew to their own devices until the next day? After that point, I lost interest, especially as the film dissolved (play on words?) into your typical face hugger, stomach erupting, and generally gross out "blood and guts" scenes of a standard Aliens' movie. Prometheus had great potential, but fell short of the mark. I give it a 5/10.

In fairness, he didn't get "tired", he went off for a shag.
Which is probably far more implausible really.

Why are you not a "Top Reviewer" and this David Denby clown is????? We cant even down vote these paid retards. What you say is honest and accurate. What David says is misleading trash. This site saddens me.

Really Anthony? Cause I felt this film couldn't have missed the mark so entirely... There was nothing wonderous or adventurous about the film, the entire premise is a rehash of 2001 and the Acting and Charactarizations were terrible and badly contrived... Seemed like Space Spring Break to me, all it needed was Jason Vorheese and this little Gem would have been Jason X all over again!

The Questions were mainly... WHAT IN THE F*CK ARE YOU THINKING? I mean the Biologist and Geologist get LOST when there is a 3D Map in the ship they can refer to... by you know... asking someone... They see a Pile of dead bodies in the Hallway and Camp out in a room with an OBVIOUS Biohazard (The Black Goo they know NOTHING about) The try and touch a lifeform in said room...I mean... REALLY? Your fucking terrified about ancient corpses, but a living creature is COOL? Give me a break... Honestly... This is just an EXAMPLE of the poor choices that just took me OUT of the movie... :\

How much did they pay you to give this piece of garbage a good review? Come on, seriously? A New Yorker critic is actually willing to sell his soul and give this clunker a good review? I don't believe it.

Am I the only critic here that isn't bellowing feces out my bunghole. I'm more entertained by reading these poor reviews by so called "Top Critics" than i was from the actual movie. Be honest you sad critics and people will respect your opinions more.

Dear Rotten Tomatoes,

Why can't we down vote these so called "Top Reviewers" so that the masses aren't so misled??

Ironically the film lacked atmosphere whether on the surface or underground.Alien was all atmosphere.Silly and unfair to even expect to recreate that same magic. On it's own merits a dissappointing film.

David, you suck! How much did the studio pay you to write such a bland review. Many questions unanswered? That the main problem of the movie!!! The whole plot is stupid, the characters are idiotic, the premise was good, but went to the drain. You cant make a movie about an idea. You have to develop it!!! Man, you suck.
