Paddy Considine Is Not Starring in Punisher 2
Paddy Considine is up for the role of the villain in The Punisher: War Zone. Oh, wait -- no, he isn't.
In one of the more entertaining non-O.J. stories developing over the weekend, Considine popped in over at his official site to let fans know he was being offered the chance to play deformed mobster Jigsaw in next year's sequel/not-a-sequel to 2004's The Punisher. But Considine's announcement -- part of a larger discussion at his forum regarding whether or not he'd "sold out" by appearing in The Bourne Ultimatum -- was quickly followed by another one:
It all means jack anyway. The original choice for Jigsaw dropped out, then they offered it to me...then whoever is responsible said that their original choice has decided to do it, therefore pulling my offer. The only blessing was that I didn't waste an hour of my life reading the script. That be the way of the film world. And for the record, I thought Green Street was a gigantic mess. Lucky escape.
Green Street is a 2005 Elijah Wood drama helmed by Punisher: War Zone director Lexi Alexander, so Considine's comment about it being a "gigantic mess" can be read as the equivalent of a parting "yeah, well, I never liked you anyway." (Then again, the critics basically agree with Considine; the film currently stands at 46 percent on the Tomatometer.)
No word on who Lionsgate's first choice for Jigsaw might be. Punisher: War Zone is currently slated for a release sometime next year.

on Sep 17 2007 07:32 AM alls i know is that the punisher video game for xbox was friggin dope. the movie should have featured more of the bloodspray-inducing vigilante murders for which the punisher is known, but i guess the pg-13 tag brings the kids in (in theory, anyways). oh, and that punisher arcade game where you could also be nick fury was sweet, too. if this is rated pg-13, forget it, but an R rating would be encouraging (considering it's a war zone and all). on Sep 17 2007 12:58 PM Great, a sequel to a sub-par knockoff of Death Wish. If they have the cajones to actually release this steaming pile of dog crap to theaters it will gross less then 3 million its opening weekend. Its Tomatometer will be between 1% - 3%. (Reply to this) |
![]() on Sep 17 2007 01:28 PM wait, did someone say this is going to be pg-13? what the **** hollywood, stop trying to make more money and realize that youre supposed to be making movies for people to enjoy, instead of making movies and then cutting otu all the stuff people want to see just so more people can see it and you can make more money. I hate today's hollywood. (Reply to this) |

on Sep 17 2007 04:53 PM Agh, hulk and now this? Just reboot the series for gods sake, no one even remembers the last movie let alone care about it. I mean I understand the hulk if they dont want to redo the origin story but come on. No one will care if theres a reboot so soon as long as the movie is good. (Reply to this) |
