IGN Movies was at the Quantum set last week, and came away with the beginnings of a rough outline of the film -- as well as a few moments with Bond himself, Daniel Craig. Asked about the movie's title, Craig had this to say:
It's been going around for a while, we've been discussing it quite a while. We could have found a nippy title -- we had plenty of suggestions that would look good on the poster. But we made a lot of effort last time around to take the film to a new place, and we want to continue to do that.
So this title is meant to confuse a little. It's meant to make you wonder, and that's what we want -- we want people thinking as they come into the film. When we first came up with the title I wasn't sure, but I've been re-reading the Fleming books, which I do when we start shooting because it passes the time. Fleming always has a very emotional line to his books, and that's where we kind of left the last movie. It doesn't mean that this movie is going to be some character-driven kitchen sink drama -- we're making a Bond movie -- and Quantum of Solace ties in with a very strong plot point, which I'm not going to give away at this point.

Elixor writes: on Jan 28 2008 08:31 AM I'm pretty sure that "Quantum of Solace" isn't referring to Quamtum Physics at all. Quantum just means a discrete amount of something, usually refering to the smallest quantity that can exist. Seems like a popular misunderstanding in regards to the title. I've heard a lot of people equating the title to Quantum Leap also. (Reply to this) |

arendr writes: on Jan 28 2008 08:35 AM This is sounding really good to me. I'm so glad they're making these new Bond movies more intelligent and more emotionally charged. You have to give Bond motivation for being so cold and calculated. (Reply to this) |

Gimy writes: on Jan 28 2008 09:21 AM arendr...i think the complete opposite. the character is an action film character, how many of you guys have complained that No Country for Old Men isn't making enough or gettin' enough viewers? i think they're going to alienate the mass audience if they do too much thinking and not enough action. we'll see though. as long as it doesn't suck, i'm ok with whatever...just don't make it slow and boring. Elixor, i'm pretty sure dude was attempting to make a joke about the physics thing. and yes, when i hear "quantum" i think of the old tv show Quantum Leap...and i imagine the dude going through time and stuff. its just an odd sounding title, it doesn't flow at all and they've even acknowledged that. arendr writes: on Jan 28 2008 12:00 PM Gimy, nobody said it was going to be slow and boring. All I'm talking about is making it less dumbed down. I love Bond because it's been considered among the cream of the crop for action movies for a long time. But if you watch the Connery films you'll see that it requires an attention span to get through them. In my theater, people were cheering at the ending of Casino Royale when he says "Bond, James Bond". I don't think that sounds like an alienated crowd. (Reply to this) |

Elixor writes: on Jan 28 2008 01:17 PM In reply to this comment (#1533248) And I didn't mean to make anyone look or feel stupid. I just wanted to clear up a misconception that I've heard a lot of people make reference to. I've heard too many say the title was stupid, because they assume that it's a techie Sci-Fi title, and for some reason it doesn't fit a bond movie. (Reply to this) |

tabascoman77 writes: on Jan 30 2008 10:27 PM They could call it "James Bond vs. The Lettuce Monsters" and it would have my money as long as Daniel Craig reprised his role and the movie followed along the same lines as CR. The last movie showed me that the producers wanted to get back on the right track so I could care less about the title. Hell, the last movie had "Casino Royale" in the title and you didn't see the damn Casino for like a full hour. (Reply to this) |
