Movie Info

Often extremely funny, this movie tends to be uneven, however, in that it vacillates between extremely funny scenes and drama as a young man checks up on a department store chain outlet owned by his family. This is just essentially a slice-of-life film about what occurs when he checks up on a store in a provincial town.more

Audience Reviews for Quelques jours avec moi (A Few Days with Me)

After his mother(Danielle Darrieux), the CEO of a supermarket chain, arranges for Martial Pasquier(Daniel Auteuil) to be released from a sanitarium, he takes an interest in the family business by visiting the five most underperforming stores, starting with one in Limoges where he gets an invitation from Fonfrin(Jean-Pierre Marielle), the store manager, to a dinner party that night but has to decline because he has a flight to catch. Except Martial doesn't and shows up at the dinner party, ingratiating himself with the guests, especially Regine(Therese Liotard), an old acquaintance. Apparently taking a liking to the city, he rents an apartment and the services of Francine(Sandrine Bonnaire), the Finfrans' maid, before making his true purpose known to her...

To be honest, "A Few Days with Me" could probably use a better title. And that's about it in the complaints department for this wise, witty and delightful movie that is helped by the understated performances from Daniel Auteuil and Sandrine Bonnaire.(And Vincent Lindon is very good also, even if it is strange seeing him as a younger man.) That works well in establishing the rather interesting character of Martial who is childlike and naive, and was maybe a child prodigy which might have hurt his emotional development. While it can be said that he enjoys playing games, he means no harm unlike the games played by others. In fact, he has a natural talent for shaking things up which erases the social barriers between people and keeping them off-balance, just as the movie keeps the viewer off-balance throughout. All of which goes to show you that people can surprise you.
