We know it's shaping up to be quite a disappointing week for DVD, but we promise at least a little light at the end of the tunnel. If fantasy is your thing, you've got the latest family flick from the artist formerly known as The Rock (Race to Witch Mountain), an otherworldly animated flop (Delgo), and Thomas Jane's strange sci-fi actioner based on a role-playing game (Mutant Chronicles). Joe Wright delivers an Oscar would-be (The Soloist, starring Jamie Foxx and Robert Downey Jr.) while the likes of Sienna Miller, Peter Sarsgaard, Forest Whitaker, Dakota Fanning and others languish in poorly-reviewed indie pics (The Mysteries of Pittsburgh, Fragments). Only Blu-ray owners truly have something to celebrate (Big Trouble in Little China on Blu-ray)! Read on for more.

Race to Witch Mountain -- 43%

No matter how gosh darn charismatic Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is, even his bemused, enthusiastic performance couldn't save this Disney kids' adventure. The biggest reason for this, of course, is that we didn't need another Witch Mountain flick -- the 1975 Escape From Witch Mountain is a classic in its own right, thank you very much -- and director Andy Fickman (The Game Plan, She's the Man) attempts to "update" the reboot by borrowing liberally from EVERY OTHER SCI-FI FILM ever made. The story begins as two alien children (AnnaSophia Robb and Alexander Ludwig) convince an ex-con taxi driver (Johnson) to help them find an alien doohickey they need to save their home planet. A handful of drawn-out chase scenes later, they've been joined by Carla Gugino's lady scientist and are on the run from not only the sinister US government, but a Predator-Terminator knock off space hunter. DVD extras are sparse, though the "Which Mountain?" Blu-ray only feature allows Fickman to walk us through the subtle references to the first Witch Mountain flicks, demonstrating that he apparently did watch them before deviating so far from what made them, you know, good?

Next: A very special movie from Jamie Foxx and Robert Downey Jr.

I want to check out The Soloist, but, other than that, this week sucks.

The Soloist is pretty good, I liked it. I actually liked Obsessed too, it was a fun flick to sit through, campy fun. Not enough to buy either title however. Not a good week for DVD

FLIGHT OF THE CONCHORDS!!! ftw! Roll on a season 3 I hope. Funniest tv show EVER! Though not quite as good as series 1, but only by a narrow margin.

Big trouble in little china is worthy too, nothing else jumps out at all. I recomend hunting down some Conchords on dvd if youv never seen it.

Probably try to catch up this week on some of the stuff I already have. I finally replaced my VHS copy of The Maltese Falcon with a DVD and got Citizen Kane and Ben Hur in the bargain, Plus I've still gotta watch Green Lantern: First Flight.

Going to pick up The Soloist this week. Witch Mountain was only ok and Obsessed was no good at all other than Idris Elba. Fragments looks pretty good, might get that as well.

I really want to see The Soloist, I heard it was really good. Plus, Obsessed was pretty good as well, except, Ali Larter's performance in that movie really got on my nerves, but hey, that's what the character was supposed to do.

Expect "Obsessed", that looks awful. And "Flight of the Conchords", which is EXCELLENT!

"Delgo" is released? Hmmmm...

I thought The Soloist was pretty bland and mediocre, really disappointing.

Lots of... things I don't want to see.

Fragments sounds like it could be good, but only for its cast.

I actually haven't seen Big Trouble in Little China, but it is a cult classic, and it is by John Carpenter, plus that photo is pretty insane. So it sounds like its right up my alley.

Delgo looks just horrible, no, not even that, Delgo looks repugnant, grotesque, appalling, and vomit inducing.

GST, go watch Big Trouble in Little China IMMEDIATELY!!

Delgo...yeah.

And while I wouldn't watch Witch Mountain again, if you're especially sharp-eyed you can catch a few momentary cameos by online movie writers in the convention scenes...
