I can't pan it, but this 1980 fantasy biography of fighter Jake LaMotta seems unquestionably Martin Scorsese's weakest work, at least to that point in his career.
Why'd you give it a nice and ripe tomato then? A ridiculous review. Robert Deniro's performance in this movie is regarded as one of the greatest performances of all time. And this happens to be one of Scorsese's best movies. Top 3, probably. And I agree with a previous poster. You really do look like a 60 year old woman in your picture. "Unquestionably Martin Scorsese
s weakest work." You are unquestionably a major douche-bag.
I couldn't agree more. This film has to rank up there with Goodfellas and The Departed as the three greatest Scorsese movies of all time, and he's had some pretty damn good ones.
First off I would change that pic because I've always thought you were a woman. Secondly Raging Bull is definitely in the top ten movies of all time and anyone who has seen it cannot doubt it. I've read a lot of your other reviews and it is quite obvious you are a moron. I could do this job better than you - you may laugh - but I'm sure I know more about film then you and know what good is. Seriously if I met you I would laugh in your face. Good day.
I find it so strange that commenters here act as if difference of opinion is somehow a bad thing. That there is definitely, certifiably a canon of all-time greats that can never be questioned. The sense of anger and vitriol and immature ridicule that you people use to attack a difference of opinion already defeats your intended purpose: to prove that you 'know better' than the critic in question, whose capsule review is, while controversial, perfectly lucid and harmless.
And I like Raging Bull, but unlike its other rabid fans I apparently don't have childish hostility to anyone who disagrees with me.
There's nothing wrong with a reviewer having a different opinion, but if you run through all the classics you'll see a good number of them where Dave Kehr is the only one of one of the very few giving the movie a "rotten" rating. Or in this case barely "passing the smell test". He seems to get a kick out of having the unique vision of seeing classics for being so much less than what they are. You know how unknown critics insincerely praise crappy movies to get their names in the paper? Well, it seems Kehr rips on classics to...really, what the hell is this jackass's reason...
