Re-emerging speaks for itself as an uplifting portrait of an exuberant subculture that doesn't just practice its faith - it revels in it.

Admirably, the film gives skeptics their say, however briefly. Yet in the face of the authenticity of Shmuel's faith, the evidence for or against the Judaic heritage of the Igbo is beside the point.

"Re-emerging" can be pedestrian as filmmaking, though it remains interesting as long as it remains in Nigeria.
