William Ryan made his directorial debut with this comedy-drama set in the small town of Shermer, Illinois, where vandalism by Robin Fleming (Alessandro Nivola) gets him thrown in jail by the two-man police force -- Sergeant Phil Quinn (William Sadler) and his dim-bulb deputy, Ernie (Bruce Norris). Sensational performances. A Romantic, somewhat humourous tale.
A drama that probes the prejudices and divisiveness of a small community.
A snail-paced, airless bore.
Such a glorified workshop may have its rewards for the actors, but it leaves audiences with a booby prize.
I really liked this film, it's well written, very amusing as well as touching. It has a good feel for small town life, the characters are quite well developed and Alessandro Nivola is excellent in the lead role. Great story, thoroughly enjoyable.
