Synopsis: Coach Roy (MARTIN LAWRENCE) once was college basketball's top mastermind. But lately his attentions have been on his next endorsements, not on his next game. What's more, Roy's temper has run... Coach Roy (MARTIN LAWRENCE) once was college basketball's top mastermind. But lately his attentions have been on his next endorsements, not on his next game. What's more, Roy's temper has run amuck, leading to his being banned from college ball until he can "demonstrate compliance" – in other words, not explode every time he walks onto the court. Roy waits – and waits – for a suitable coaching offer, but he receives only one: a hastily scribbled fax from… members of the Mount Vernon Junior High School "Smelters"* basketball squad. Roy reluctantly accepts the "offer," hoping that a few weeks at the school will prove his good intentions and restore him to his high-living ways as a celebrated college coach. But when "old school" meets "middle school," Coach Roy doesn't know what hit him. The boys are hapless, possessing little athletic skill and virtually no grasp of the fundamentals of basketball. Roy's first game as the Smelters' coach sees the team losing 0-109. And it looks like things are going only downhill from there. That is, until Roy decides to teach his young charges some new concepts… like passing, rebounding, dribbling, and scoring. As Roy's coaching magic takes the Smelters to a new place – the winning side of the scoreboard – he finds something long thought lost: his love of the game. *smelter: one who is engaged in the smelting industry, melting or fusing ores in order to separate the metallic components. -- © 20th Century Fox [More]

Even the teenaged misfit audiences to whom "Rebound" is targeted will lose patience with the film's uninspired gags and lazy writing.

An adequate video babysitter, but kids and parents alike would have a better time simply rewatching The Bad News Bears.

Frankly I wouldn't be surprised if Rebound was written, shot, edited, and released over the course of ... let's be generous and say three weeks.

Will probably go down someplace in the cinema history books, as it is the first film in which star Martin Lawrence never goes "DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMN!"

Why would such a talent as Martin Lawrence make a totally useless, inane movie? I'm guessing that, as usual, money talks.

It took no fewer than five writers to come up with this dull, harmless re-tread of The Bad News Bears.

Every cliche-filled line and plot element comes from other, better movies, so why not wait for the upcoming remake of "Bad News Bears"?

The low-scoring Rebound makes Martin Lawrence's upcoming sequel to Big Momma's House seem like a blessed event.

Exposure to Rebound will not require immediate medical attention – but you could say that about a plate of tofu. That doesn't mean there's any reason to seek it out.

The movie's bad, but at least it isn't aggressively annoying. It has puke jokes, but hey -- no farts! Put those quotes in your ads, 20th Century Fox.
