A pileup of impossible-to-believe situations that just keep getting worse with every line uttered by anyone who happens to be on screen.

When his cellmate, Nick, is suddenly killed, Rudy decides to take on his identity in order to meet Nick's beautiful pen-pal girlfriend, Ashley (Charlize Theron). The couple has fun until her psychotic brother, Gabriel (Gary Sinise), shows up. Gabriel and his gang want to hold up a casino where Nick had once worked, and they blackmail Rudy/Nick into going along with the scheme. Rudy has to bluff his way through the crime, pretending to be Nick in order to avoid being killed while trying to sabotage the plans of the bad guys. Will Rudy be able to outsmart the bad guys, or will he end up facedown in the snow? Double crosses abound in this frosty film noir action movie boasting a twisty script by writer Ehren Kruger (SCREAM 3, ARLINGTON ROAD) and assured direction by veteran John Frankenheimer (THE MANCHURIAN CANDIDATE, RONIN), plus a sneaky sense of humor and plenty of Christmas references. Reviews for Reindeer Games
The chief idiocy of this movie, even allowing for its modest 'B' flick intentions, is its car-wreck of coincidences and contrivances.
The film's action sequences explode with excitement as well as a clarity that's often missing from contemporary action vignettes.
At its worst Reindeer Games is far-fetched, but if you suspend disbelief and just go along for the freaky ride, this noirish trucker tall-tale isn't half bad.
I wish I'd had a stopwatch, to clock how many minutes are spent while one character holds a gun to another character's head and gabs.
Giving a movie like this an epic sheen is, to use the technical term, like putting lipstick on a pig.
The 'out-of-the-blue' ending that slaps you so hard in the face, you'll think General Patton was sitting next to you.
Watching Reindeer Games is the equivalent of doubling down in blackjack and losing: it's fun at first, then your hopes go up, but you walk away feeling frustrated and cheated.
