"Smallville" Escapee to Star in "Resident Evil 4"?

The third "Resident Evil" flick is still under production, but that won't stop the casting rumors on "Resident Evil 4: Afterlife" from pouring in. Let's just say that those who've watched "Dark Angel," "Smallville," and "Supernatural" might enjoy this news.

From DarkHorizons and MoviesOnline.ca: "Jensen Ackles, the "not as good looking but still smoking hot" brother in The CW's teen cult hit "Supernatural" is in talks for the role of Leon Kennedy in the fourth "Resident Evil" movie reports Movies Online.

The third film "Extinction" is in production and the fourth, currently known as "Afterlife", is already preparing to film next year to follow in the video game horror movie franchise."

while i can kinda see Jensen Ackles as Leon, i've given up all hope on the Resident Evil movie franchise. it had so much potential that they totally wasted. we can only hope that Extinction bombs so badly that they don't make a fourth one.

Resident Evil 2 (real name Resident Evil: Apocalypse) came out in 2004. and yes, it sucked badly and made many people's lists as one of the worst films of the year. sadly, it made money at the box office, more money than the first one did. never underestimate stupid moviegoers in large numbers.

dude, the movie WAS bad. let's list all the reasons, shall we?

- it had slow-as-molasses plotting. was this supposed to be a zombie movie? you almost forget there are zombies in the damn movie because there are long spaces in between zombie appearances where absolutely nothing happens. and when the zombies were on the screen, the choppy editing made the zombies look like blurry stop-motion when they walked. what were they trying to accomplish with how they edited this?

- it had a stupid story. really, why would they open the Hive AGAIN? they put the security system in place to keep the damn place shut if something went wrong, but not only do they send a team of soldiers to open it in the first film, but they open it AGAIN after they lose the entire team inside? wouldn't they get the hint by now to just leave the damn place locked up? and if they opened the Hive on purpose, at least say so somewhere in the story.

- the Mike Epps character was so cliche it was downright offensive. i mean really, do we need the smack-talking black comedy relief? haven't we gotten past this kind of thing in films? why don't they just bring back tap-dancing blackface Sambos while they're at it?

- the main character suffers from the Superman Syndrome, where characters get so powerful that you're no longer concerned about whether they'll survive because you know they will. Alice becomes so powerful that she can kill you with her mind. WITH HER FREAKIN' MIND. how are we supposed to get scared for her when she's so powerful that nothing can stop her? it's like how uninteresting Neo got in The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions. he could stop bullets and fly, how are we supposed to be afraid for him when he's in a life-threatening situation when he clearly isn't?

-the movie went on about 5 minutes longer than it should have. it should have at least ended with Alice waking up in the tank after the chopper crashed. watching her escape was unneeded since they could have shown that at the beginning of the next film.

- and do we need that pale blue lighting through the entire movie? how many cities are a pale blue at night? i've never been in a single city at night where everything looks blue. at least in the Hive, you kinda had an excuse with the metal halls and corridors. but here, it's out of place and felt like they were trying to conform to the "all action-sci-fi-horror films need blue light" trend of the first film and other movies of its kind like the Underworld films.

and if you really wanna get nerdy:

- Alice was totally grandstanding through the entire film. Jill was the main protagonist in the game, but every time she got into a little trouble, Super Alice swoops in to save her ass again and again. and let's not overlook that Jill was the inspiration for Alice in the first place, so you have two versions of the same character running around in the movie. one is enough, thank you.

- they turned Nemesis, a badass killing machine in the game, into a good guy at the end of the film! what a letdown.

want me to go on, or have i sufficiently explained just how bad this film really is?

and i agree that people who listen only to critics are idiots. but when 90% of a large pool of critics say a movie sucks, then it probably does suck.

No when 90% of critics say a movie sucks that means nothing. Critics are nothing, everyone should ignore them and then people would realize what a bunch of jokes they are. I did not like the movie but i do not call people who liked it idiotS, just like i did not call people idiots when they liked Superman Returns probably the worst movie of all time.

I for one like the RE movies. Could they've been better? Absolutely, but that's true of nearly any comic book/graphic novel/book/video game adaptation. You're not gonna please everyone and they know that going in. Hell, some people hate them merely b/c of the fact that it's being made into a movie. And as far as critics, and I mean this with no disrepect, you're talking about a group of people that doing nothing but watch movies and TV shows. And most of the time, they don't even watch them in their entirety, basing their opinion on the first 30 minutes of something, not giving the whole picture. Sure the part they watch might have something in it they hate and they review based on that. Now granted, there are actually some that take the time to watch it all the way through and more power to them. Never trust the critics.

It's a bit of a stretch to say that SR is the worst movie of all time.

The Resident Evil movies are good if you consider them as movies based on a video game before watching it. Expecting a mind-blowing, original, Oscar-calibur flick is just dumb.

I'm not a big Superman fan, and yes, Superman Returns was riddled with flaws. But worst comic book movie of all time? No way, not by a longshot. That honor goes to either Daredevil, Elektra or Spawn. And there were several others that were far worse than Superman Returns. X:3 for example, and Blade Trinity. Not to mention Supergirl and Batman & Robin. The list goes on. I can appreciate your condemnation of Superman Returns, but let's be real.

back to the point at hand, i think dylan gave a fairly cogent (read: way too in depth) analysis of his or her OPINION of why RE2 wasn't very good. instead of attacking each other for giving opinions (your a doody head, nyuh uh, u are...) just respect each other's opinions. if someone likes a movie you (this is not directed at anyone, just in general) do not like, please do not call them idiots.

except if you liked the fog, when a stranger calls, or the skulls.. if you like those movies, in my opinion you are close to being an idiot and probaly should be institutionalized.

finally, RE4??!? wow, should make a killing on DVD, won't make much in the theatres, but neither will RE3

they should make mortal kombat 3, now that video game rocked!

No it is the worst. It is nothing like Superman the comic book character and completely ruins it. Daredevil was bad, the directors cut was not bad. Electra and Spawn at least were kinda true to the comics. X3 was not bad, adn Blade Trinity had its moments. Superman Returns is the worst comic book movie of all time. There is really nothing redeeming to it at all.

I am afraid I have to respectably disagree with you, but not without a bit of healthy vehemence of course. First of all, not only was Elektra a horrible film on its one merit, it was also in no way faithful to the comic. The Hand is absolutely nothing like they're portrayed in the film (and I call it a film with reluctance). And Elektra is supposed to be Japanese (part white, yeah, but Asian enough in appearance that her heritage remains a secret until uncovered and considered a betrayal punishable by death). Nothing against Garner, but casting her as Elektra was a cultural insult and absurd anomaly.
Daredevil was ludacrous and way too camp. And that whole Catholic church thing was gratuitous and out of place. Spawn, I'd have to say, was the worst of the lot. Terribly acted, terribly written, and horribly miscast. Add to that more cultural insults. Terry Fitzgerald, black in the comic, is some pedestrian white dude and Chapel is stripped of not only his race but also his sex, turned into a girl named Priest. (get it, haha. Chapel/Priest, how clever). Some may want to say "oh, no big deal", but let me remind you that we've never seen Jimmy Olson with an afro or Wolverine played by Wesley Snipes.
And we never will.
These films represent an incredible lack of respect and an obscene surfeit of stupidity. They also show how immature America still is when it comes to race.
Now for Superman Returns, at least it was watchable, and the characters recognizable. My biggest peeve however, and I think the biggest hole the script, was how they turned Lois Lane into the whore of the century.
They went on and on about how Superman Returns was supposed to follow some five years after Superman II on the timeline. Well, if that's the case then she was either doing both men at the same time, or she got knocked up by Richard White the day Superman left. Add to that the fact that at the same time she was willing to let the man of steel give up his powers for her! What?!
You might argue that, well, "the kiss" took her memory away. But that amnesiac kiss thing was a copout power concocted by filmmakers for the sole purpose of tying up a loose end in a faulty script. And, anyway, it still doesn't reconcile the time discrepancy. So, fine, Lois Lane's a whore, but that doesn't mean Superman Returns was without its merits. Spacey was great as Lex.

While on the subject of angry tirades against comic book movies, I wonder how come no criticisms are ever lobbed at Spider-man. It was not a good movie, with poorly concieved villains, shallow- stale acting, horrible dialogue, bad action that was totally CGI, idiotic plot developement. I saw what the whole team behind Spider-man was trying to accomplish and it felt artificial. Everyone will probably use the "its a comic book movie" as an argument against my criticisms, but then why do you all not let the flaws of Superman Returns go? At least the emotion in Superman felt more real than anything in Spiderman. IN either movie.
