![]() on Aug 08 2007 11:24 PM I just can't get excited about this film... it has nothing to do with Resident Evil anymore! The games were called "Resident" for a reason - the whole saga started out in a huge, mysterious mansion full of secrets and the undead. The series should be about creaking floor boards, deserted inner city buildings, swamps, graveyards, underground labs... not some Mad Max apocalyptic tale set in the desert, with the heroine having superpowers!!! I always felt the games felt like watching an episode of "LOST" only much darker with zombies. Those who've played the games should hopefully see the similarities between these two franchises. They have so much in common in terms of the way their stories unravel. (Reply to this) |

on Aug 08 2007 11:53 PM damn you can tell the people who make these movies do not play the game...Albert Wexler?? It's Wesker dip****s. (Reply to this) |

on Aug 09 2007 02:59 AM The fact this movie was made proves there is no God. I would rather be given a battery acid enema then watch this. Tomatometer prediction: 02% - because there is always that one guy(or girl) who will claim he likes it just to be different. *gives the evil eye to Michelle Alexandria, the sole reason "Alone in the Dark" doesn't have a 0% Tomatometer* (Reply to this) |

on Aug 09 2007 05:11 AM I have to agree, as a big Resident Evil fan, I've always been dismayed by what they've done to the films. It's just not fair! Why could they not just hang to the game storylines, because however silly they were, they were still better than what we got. Screw Capcom for ever allowing Paul WideScreen Anderson to rewrite the games in such a hideous manner. The only thing in common between games and films is the name. Such a waste. (Reply to this) |

on Aug 09 2007 05:51 AM god you guys whine like little comic book nerds. you know why they don't SIMPLIFY the series and make it EXACTLY like the game?? because that limits the audience, it limits the ideas they can use as well. you idiots always whine about how the movie isn't EXACTLY like the game but guess what?? GAME movies suck! look at Doom, it tried to be EXACTLY like the game and it was garbage. if you are a fan of the game and not the movie...then guess what? keep playing the game and shutup. the system they have in place OBVIOUSLY works because the movie is profitable. its simplistic as h3ll even without the game lines...shoot this, run...shoot that...but its about the best video game movie i've seen. that doesn't say much but, at least its somewhat entertaining. if thats because they've STAYED AWAY from the game plotlines...fine. but would you rather see a decent movie(they're not great) or a crap movie thats based EXACTLY on your wittle game? if they did it YOUR way, i bet they would have only made one and it wouldn't have made anything. (Reply to this) |

on Aug 09 2007 06:00 AM Any action movie, especially great ones like these, are ruined to start with the fact they have a female lead, call me a sexist or whatever but I can't take a movie serious, especially action movies where females have the lead. Maybe that's just me. (Reply to this) |
![]() on Aug 09 2007 06:13 AM In reply to this comment (#1024083) Wow, you're comparing a game like doom, with the only storyline is that hell is loose on mars.... To Resident Evil, which even with its shoddy gameplay for over 11 years (which was saved by Resident Evil 4), was only kept alive for its solid storylines. People were in it for the story, to get the crap scared out of them... And shoot some zombies. But comparing Doom to RE is like comparing Pong to Final Fantasy. (Reply to this) |
|
on Aug 09 2007 06:39 AM I may be the only one, but I'm actually looking forward to this movie. No I'm not expecting it to be a great movie, but it will more than likely be an enjoyable experience. The first two were decent no thinking involved action flicks, and from the previews this one looks to be an improvement on the series. (Reply to this) |

on Aug 09 2007 07:08 AM defmonk...are we talking about a game or a movie?? i BELIEVE this is about a movie, IS IT NOT??? if you liked the story of the game...fine...play the game. but this is not a game, it is a movie. pong was a classic and i think EVERYBODY thats older thats in their 20's on up has played pong. FF...not so much. but i see what you're saying. i'm simply saying you cannot profit from a movie when its EXACTLY like the game unless you get like...Peter Jackson or some guy who's a FREAK about the game and is good at making movies...direct/write and probably star. there's too much to accomplish. they took the name, a simple shoot em up concept...and rolled with it. when you try to do too much...you end up with cluttered garbage. which is what most video game movies end up being (Reply to this) |

on Aug 09 2007 07:51 AM can anybody outthere tell me which movie made game has stuck to the original story till now ive seen them all maybe the best being doom, im a total resident evil fan the game are great(the original is still the best),and i watch the movies cos there fun not because they stick to the games (Reply to this) |
|
on Aug 09 2007 09:45 AM All the movies were a Sh*t and not because of the games. It really annoys me when they get some Dumb Actor or actress who think they know Kung fu just because they can do the splits, Strap'em to a wire rig and have them float about kicking people in the head. I blame the Matrix for this but at least it kind of fit with the plot in that film. For the worst wire work ever in an american film look no further than Seagal in Exit wounds. (Reply to this) |
|
on Aug 09 2007 10:05 AM you should know better than to watch exit wounds in the first place (Reply to this) |

on Aug 09 2007 10:42 AM I have some hope for this since Russell Mulcahy can be an entertaining director as "Razorback," "Highlander" and "Ricochet" proved. Even "The Shadow" had its moments. (Reply to this) |
![]() on Aug 09 2007 11:39 AM In reply to this comment (#1023691) Thanks, Timmy. That was my bad. Transcribing a British (I believe) accent proved too much for my feeble American ears. (Hi, Joe!) (Reply to this) |

on Aug 09 2007 12:12 PM whoo hoo... i'm on opening day. I know they aren't the best films but for some reason I really enjoyed the first two. (Reply to this) |
![]() on Aug 09 2007 12:31 PM In reply to this comment (#1024138) That answer is Final Fantasy 7: Advent Children. Its still a movie based off a game *crosses arms and grunts* Not really a FF7 fan, thats probably the best game to movie though. And Gimy, is it wrong to be a freak? Peter Jackson wants perfection. There's nothing wrong with that. But to take the name Resident Evil and take it totally south and have no ties to the game at all, except that zombies are festering and killing all humans and turning them. We had to wait till the 2nd movie for an ORIGINAL lead character from the games (Jill Valentine) and she had a bit part and wasn't being chased by Nemesis. Its all about this super human anorexic chick named Alice who has no ties to the games whatsoever and she's humanities last hope because she's super human, instead of leading humanities last hope to non-chemically altered people to try and save the world.... Or get the hell out of dodge. I'm really just disappointed in this film. When I first heard they were gonna make it, I was excited, then they were in the mansion for like 5 minutes and then in this huge hive that is miles underground the mansion. I just hope after Extinction comes and goes, that they'll wait a few years, then try and do a true blue reboot and make a adaptation to the game to truly call it an adaptation. Because, if you have the Original RE for the PS1, pop that sucker in and you'll go "What the hell?!! These controls suck and the graphics are horrible, why did I play this?" Because of the story. (Reply to this) |

![]() on Aug 09 2007 03:18 PM Extinction really does look different from the first two films, as you can tell from the trailers. I'm rather impressed with Mulcahy's visual style and how expansive and beautiful the sets look. Just having the film take place in daylight and in a desert setting (instead of nighttime in Raccoon City) makes me want to see it. Plus, I have to watch Milla Jovovich in just about anything. I'm excited. (Reply to this) |
![]() on Aug 09 2007 03:32 PM And personally, I don't need a movie adaptation to stick super faithfully to its source to be enjoyable. It's more of a jumping off point, and I think it works in many cases...think of the James Bond films. How many of those were as faithful to their respective source novels as some people think Resident Evil should be? Maybe that's not the best example of my point. I suppose I'm courting controversy with that argument... (Reply to this) |
|
on Aug 09 2007 04:49 PM In reply to this comment (#1024331) No problem. Well I am glad it was you who got it wrong and not the makers of the movie. I thought it was them who didn't get the right name of the character. (Reply to this) |
|
on Aug 09 2007 06:03 PM I liked the first two RE films and I'm hoping this ones just as good. I like the first one better though becuase it didn't have Alice being a superhero. It had people sent in to do the mission, survive, and kill zombies. The second one was still cool it's just they should have done two things. One have Leon in it because leon was easily the coolest RE character and one of the coolest video game characters. And two, not giving Alice all these superpowers and making her the hero of the movie. (Reply to this) |
|
on Aug 09 2007 08:19 PM "That answer is Final Fantasy 7: Advent Children." Hahaha...no. That film was terrible. Plotless, nonsensical drivel. (Reply to this) |

on Aug 09 2007 09:20 PM WTF!!! These movies SUCKED *** hard!!! This movie is gonna SUCK JUST as much if not MORE! It sounds like RT is just been bought off! "successful"??! Who the hell makes this stuff up!? In case anyones noticed EVERYTHING paul anderson gets his gay fingers on turns to utter crap!!! I hate these movies and hate the effect these movies bear on the games. anderson should be killed (Reply to this) |
![]() on Aug 10 2007 12:12 AM First off. I am so attracted to Milla Jovavich AND I DON'T KNOW WHY! She's just one of thse people that are alluring without really being attractive. She has a weird *** face and the body of a gymnast (meaning not much upstairs and too skinny). I blame the outfits they always have her wearing in her movies and her eyes. About RE. I wish they would have kept to the SPIRIT of the games if not the story. I've only played the first couple but I don't remember thinking of it at all as an action game (which the movies are and not scary at all). I remember a slowly paced, freaky as hell, tension building, puzzle solving, mystery game. If they wanted an action-zombie film, why didn't they just name it something else? Oh Jen Yamato. I can't read your name and not think of the Starcraft Terran Battlecruisers. Anyone else? (Reply to this) |
![]() on Aug 10 2007 12:14 AM Advent children was strictly made for FF7 fans. Which I am and so I loved it! (Reply to this) |
![]() on Aug 10 2007 12:23 AM I'm sorry about the triple post but I only skimmed past the comments the first time and seeing stuff. I wouldn't consider the Alien series to be action movies. Only Aliens, and that is why it sucked. *runs away at saying a negative thing about Aliens* Seriously though, most of Aliens (though it looked good) was cliche marine characters shooting at action fodder aliens then cutting to almost identical shots of an alien exploding then the cliche marine yelling some cliche line than giving a high five to the person next to them. The end was the only good part. (Reply to this) |
![]() on Aug 10 2007 12:46 AM In reply to this comment (#1025236) I'm really glad you just picked out another thorn in my side, Jen. Because when I seen that they were gonna be in the desert (Just like how RE5 is) and be daylight so you basically couldn't hide in the shadows, it kinda irked me off a bit, and plus Chris Redfield isn't in the story and his sister is. Maybe the 3rd one will be a bit better then the last 2, the first pissed me off, the second I was disappointed maybe the third will let me think that it was decent. And I'm really bored of Milla, she hasn't been good since the 5th Element. I can't believe I went and seen Ultraviolet. I felt like I was in Mystery Science Theater 3000 at that movie. (Reply to this) |
![]() on Aug 10 2007 01:55 AM RE: Adaptations, the ultimate example is Bourne. Those movies are nothing like the books and blimey they rock. Resident Evil, I agree, is a different beast. It's pretty-much an adaptation in name only, but I happen to think they're not nearly as awful as most RE fans think they are. (Reply to this) |
|
on Aug 10 2007 05:58 PM You know what would have made the RE movies perfect? If they spent at least an hour screen time on characters picking up Red and Green herbs, mixing them up, and then smoking them. (Reply to this) |

on Aug 12 2007 09:44 PM I luv how most of u are whining about the movie wen u know your gonna c it anyway, weather to critisize it or enjoy it, we all know we're gonna see it, and personally im excited for this 1, the thought that half dead people can commit cannibalism without being arrested is fun and stimulating and i just cant help but laugh wen i see 1 just bite a big chunck of flesh off sum1 and hearin em scream their *** off, but the only thing that i ever rly wonder is if u did arrest 1, how would u give it the death penalty? would leathal injection rly work? and would he or she have a chance at parol? hahaha (Reply to this) |
![]() on Aug 13 2007 05:48 PM In reply to this comment (#1024083) Apparently you forget that Doom bombed with fans of the game because it wasn't like the games. They replaced the "demons from Hell" plotline with a contrived "mutant virus", essentially making the film "Resident Evil in space". Why? How would it have made the film any better? I know the game didn't exactly have much plot (or any, for that matter), but weren't there, like, four Doom novels written? Why not adapt those into movies? (Reply to this) |

![]() on Aug 13 2007 06:02 PM In reply to this comment (#1025236) Yeah, well... Paul We Suck Anderson tried to emulate the "post-apocalyptic desert" setting of Mad Max and a dozen other sci-fi flicks, apparently forgetting that the reason why those films have such landscapes is because a nuclear war occurred, causing a nuclear winter. In Resident Evil: Extinction, the Apocalypse is caused by a viral outbreak. Tell me, Paul, how exactly does a virus cover Las Vegas with dust? And what is the Statue of freakin' Liberty doing in Vegas, for that matter? Man, even if the movie doesn't suck quite as much as I think it will, good luck explaining those logistical loopholes. (Reply to this) |

on Aug 15 2007 11:20 PM I Really Don't Understand Why People are trashing this film! I mean how can you really when all you saw was a teaser and a theatrical trailer. If they were to make Resident evil exactly like the game, it would probably bore me to death, knowing what would happen, and seeing almost the exact same things. Why do you think they changed it? Extinction is by far the best looking resident evil, that i am seeing. Milla Jovovich is perfect for this character, and is especially Hot. And Ali Larter As Claire Redfield is even better. Anderson is doing a good job on this. I will say tho, i was disappointed with Apocolypse, but i think he finally hit the lightbulb. I'm glad there making a 4th one cause i'm going to definately see that. and honestly to all who are trashing this movie, ur obviously going to go and see it! But if ur curious like me, go and buy the book. I Think U may change ur mind and pulgasari to answer ur questions 1. Its been 3-5 years, and the virus has spread throughout the world, think, if it hit vegas and everyones a zombie.... SANDSTORMS! Within that time it would partially cover buildings or even bury some. And also the fact that in apocolypse they dropped a nuclear bomb on raccoon city and that could affect too 2. Las Vegas has replica's of the sphinx, eiffel tower, and yes the statue of liberty, so that is why its in the film (Reply to this) |
![]() on Aug 16 2007 11:43 AM In reply to this comment (#1043851) Thanks, Silenthillfreak. Now it makes sense. Judging from the trailer I saw yesterday, the movie might not actually be that bad. The "swarm of crows" scene was genuinely gripping. It's really too bad they already spoiled what the new monster that Paul Anderson said was "going to make the fans real happy" was. I don't think there's anyone here who hasn't seen the trailer, but just in case, *SPOILER ALERT* It's the tyrant. WAsn't the Nemesis basically an uber-tyrant? Why are they going with something weaker than the previous film's main villain? How about William Birkin? He was scary as #@%& in Resident Evil 2! They could have introduced Birkin at the beginning of the movie, and then have him slowly turn into a monster as the film progressed. It'd be sort of like The Fly, only instead of a bug, Birkin turns into a shapeless, fleshy blob with tentacles and way too many teeth. Oh, well. There's always that fourth RE movie... on Aug 25 2007 05:30 PM Your either ignorant or stupid if you cant see how bad this movie is gonna be. Especially considering the previous releases. on Sep 03 2007 06:53 PM I have read all the posts on this page and registered to Rotten Tomatoes just so I could put my point across to you, the fans (and haters) of the films (and games) and just people in general. There are a few points I would like to get across here if people would care to read: 1. This has been moved to point number 1 because of its importance. I've read all the posts and I've never EVER heard anyone say this ever, but in the second film don't you think they RUINED Nemesis. I mean in the games he was this unbelievable almost indestructible scary huge monster that took so much to kill and was in mind all through the game, even if he wasn't in the scene. In the film he took a back seat behind Alice and Jill. He made 3 appearances which besides killing all the STARS members included Alice dodging everything he had to throw at her and then Alice kicking his *** in a fight. I mean he got about 3 hits on her and hardly phased her. Thats not the Nemesis from the game. Plus he was controlled. That to me lost some of his credibility. I mean this isn't about whether the films should be like the game but the Nemesis from the film was pathetic. Even if Alice is a superhero she should still have got some kind of damage. Yes yes I know she was superior bla bla but the points still the same. That should've been the climax and it was over in a couple minutes. 2. I like the films. I like the games too. The films aren't anything spectacular; not the greatest films ever made however I have the first two in my DVD collection which I watch every so often. In fact I'm in the mood to watch one now (lol). They are decent action films although originally I was slightly annoyed that they weren't more like the game as I later found out they could be had they gone with the original script 3. Horror films aren't scary anymore (though that might just be cos im 20 and growing up). Generally they are violent, predictably (but nevertheless) jumpy and blood filled (Hills Have Eyes, Hostel, Devils Rejects - all of which i have in my DVD collection and LOVE!!!) or just action films. 4. Theres nothing wrong with women in films. Except Kill Bill. I HATED that story and her arrogance! I wanted someone to pull out a machine gun and go "Swordfight 50 guys? Dodge this!" lol seriously I mean I only saw the first one I vowed never to see the 2nd because i mean seriously she can kill 50 or so trained martial arts swordfighters?? nahh!! Hmm I'm gonna stop this post now too long lol but I have MANY more opinions to give out were people to be curious lol sorry for the length and if you made it this far, well done! (Reply to this) |
|
on Sep 03 2007 07:09 PM Hmm I said I had more opinions to give but there's one I've just been thinking about and it's ALWAYS had me curious and I figure some of the more enthusiastic of fans may have some kind of answer: Why do zombies bite through flesh so easily? I mean have you ever tried biting your arm? It doesn't happen does it? But ever since the original Dawn Of The Dead (thats the oldest zombie film I've seen - none of the Night of the living dead or anything) all the zombies had to do would be to put there face in someones general direction and the skin peels away like a banana (or an apple/orange whichever piece of fruit works for you lol). I used to laugh but Resident Evil has it, Land of the Dead has it. I mean do zombies have sharpened teeth or something? Anyway yeah that was less of an opinion and more of a mild curiosity... just something for you all to chew on.................sorry about that that was bad wasn't it lol. I'll stop now haha :D (Reply to this) |
![]() on Oct 08 2007 09:53 PM In reply to this comment (#1023621) Thats because they stole their Ideas for the movie from a script i sent them about an alien invasion. It had nothing to do with resident evil but they took the main ideas and made it into a movie. (Reply to this) |
