Artists such as Otis Redding, Isaac Hayes, Booker T. & the MGs, and Mavis Staples were all signed to Stax, and it seemed like the label couldn't put a foot wrong as its roster helped define the soul/R&B scene. But the label fell on dark days, and personal disasters such as the death of Otis Redding have added a great tragedy to the Stax story. RESPECT YOURSELF is a documentary on the label, which has been filmed to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Stax. The program was shot for PBS and features performances, interviews, and rare footage from the Stax vaults. [More]
