The Memphis-based Stax label enjoyed an incredible run of hits in its heyday. Artists such as Otis Redding, Isaac Hayes, Booker T. & the MGs, and Mavis Staples were all signed to Stax, and it seemed like the label couldn't put a foot wrong as its roster helped define the soul/R&B scene. But the label fell on dark days, and personal disasters such as the death of Otis Redding have added a great tragedy to the Stax story. RESPECT YOURSELF is a documentary on the label, which has been filmed to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Stax.
