David Twohy had 14 years to improve on "Pitch Black"... He had 9 years to improve on "Chronicles of Riddick... instead he only improved on the latter. "Riddick" is another disappointing outlet that delivers piss-poor dialogue, an unbalanced script, and a main character that rarely does anything throughout the story. It's more of the same. Riddick gets stranded, yet again. Mercenaries are trying to kill or capture him. He needs to escape the planet, blah, blah, blah! More of the same, except with less thrills and less of a brain

Not bad, but that ending sucked. Was a bit like Pitch Black with them having to band together to get off the planet, while fighting a horde of deadly animals. So think Hang Over 2 with out the jokes and lots more violence.

I do like Vin Diesel. There is something interesting about him as an actor that for me, makes him far more appealing than the majority of the other muscle-bound action heroes. The character of Riddick suits him perfectly and I have generally enjoyed this series of movies, despite some of the more baffling plot elements. In this third full-length feature, we see the character pretty much back on familiar ground, almost as though the last movie didn't happen. Indeed, David Twohy seems to have decided to pretty much re-stage the plot of Pitch Black using many of the same ideas. So we have our eponymous antihero being pursued by bounty hunters on a desolate planet that becomes overrun with slavering monsters. This time, the twist is that they don't come out in the dark of an eclipse, but rater wait until it rains. Of course, the bounty hunters gradually get picked off in a variety of increasingly gory ways, giving Vin Diesel plenty of opportunities to deliver suitably pithy observations. There are some nice special effects and the various creatures that inhabit the planet are well realised. In particular the "dog" that Riddick befriends and raises is a great looking creature. Kate Sackhoff makes for a suitably kick-ass female bounty hunter but I'm really not sure about Jordi Molla and Matt Nable as the leaders of the two rival gangs. Neither seem particularly convincing and indeed, Molla's character would have had his head kicked in by his own men long before they landed on the planet. Ultimately, this movie is enjoyable but, it is just too much of a copy of Pitch Black to score more highly and I doubt we'll be seeing much more of this character in the future, which I think is a shame.

Love Vin but I can't say that this was the most enjoyable of the series.

Good movie and worthy sequel with only minor ignorable cliches and idiocy, until two thirds in, when they meet and Riddick gets shot four times with a 50 BMG rifle loaded with horse tranquilizers
It is even more riddickulous than it sounds

Vin Diesel's third outing as Richard B Riddick, the anti-hero from Pitch Black and the reluctant hero from Chronicles of Riddick.
Set after Chronicles (and with a brief cameo from Karl Urban that explains how), this starts with Riddick stranded on an inhospitable planet, where seemingly everything is out to kill him. After a largely wordless first 1/2 hour or so in which he struggles to survive, we start seeing the 'old' Riddick, the one more from Pitch Black than from Chronicles. This leads into the main meat of the movie, with Riddick activating an emergency beacon to call some bounty hunters so he can get off the planet before night falls (sorry: wrong movie!).
Jokes aside, there are aspects of Pitch Black that are virtually replicated here, with the final act in particular almost a complete carbon-copy of parts of Pitch Black. As such, this is not a *bad* film; just not as good as the first in the series, maybe slightly better than the second.

A lot better than the first sequel, this attempts to recreate what was special about Pitch Black - a claustrophobic, dark, straight up science fiction, alien blockbuster on a modest budget - it attempts, but fails. It fails mostly because in the place of a rag-tag bunch of misfits forced to work together, we have a group of chiseled mercenaries, none of whom you could care less about. Still, this is a truckload better than the pomp that was on offer in The Chronicles of Riddick which was disastrous.

Riddick is back with an R rating and a sub $40mil budget. He returns to his roots fighting aliens and mercs on an arid planet. Good story and effects. It's cheesy and simple, but lots of fun. "Hey instead of having an exploding lock, let's just have no lock at all!"

Vin Diesel picks up the mantle as Riddick for a third outing. He plays the character as if it were a second skin with seemingly little effort. I didn't really care for Pitch Black much; The Chronicles of Riddick didn't make much sense. This is the best of the three. Bounty hunters after an escaped convict. Convict is smarter than the average bounty hunter. Good special effects and an unclothed Katee Sackhoff... how can you go wrong?

Vin Diesel and Dave Bautista in a pre-"Guardians" appearance...

An AWESOME, what I hope, is a final. Vin Diesel is in a class of his own as an actor.

Just because I give it two stars doesn't mean it wasn't reasonably entertaining. For fans of the previous two Riddick movies it is better than the 2nd movie, which means it's watchable.

I enjoyed this movie, however, it is very similar to Pitch Black. I found the female soldier annoying and distracting. And the actress herself, looked as if she was sucking on a lemon throughout all of her scenes. I gave this movie three stars because it would have been a better movie without her or a better actress/actor in the role.

Much better than the last one but still not as good as the first one. He has to many lines, silent but deadly..
October 24, 2014
Quite simply the hardest guy in the universe. The story doesn't need to be any more than paper thin because the original action makes up for it.

The critics got this one right. (though should be higher). Riddick's return is great but not a stand out. This is do to the lackluster performances by the supporting cast. You first have David Bautista, who was great in GOTG, but didn't bring it here. It was laughable. Raoul Trujillo, who was again great in Apocalypto, but didn't bring his A game here. The action was great and the story was pretty great. Diesel did a great job as Riddick. This is strictly for action lovers and no one who wants an amazing story. Overall I liked it but I'm waiting for the next one...that might be a lot better.

Riddick starts out taking itself way too seriously, but then evolves into a bland and boring film. Many accused the previous installment of being too much of everything, including silliness, but makes you wish this movie had a little more.

They tried going back to their roots, but they didn't bring along a plot.
January 23, 2014
A decent mix of the first two movies, that, while not as hard hitting as the original, is no where near as boring as the sequel.

Watch Pitch Black. Just Pitch Black.
