Told via flashback by a saloon keeper to a census taker in a tiny Texas town, this brutal, adult-oriented western offers the tale of a drifter who settles down to marry a woman he doesn't love so he can get at her inheritance. Just a morbid Western.
Not an easy film to forget once you've seen it.
Chuck Connors fans might find this entertaining, but straight-shooting lovers of the genre will have to admit that there are much better westerns out there. A whole herd of them.
Solid western with a wonderful cast of veterans. Connors fits the stoic lead character like a glove with the rest of the performers well cast in roles that weren't any stretch for them but which they play well.
