"Rio Breaks" tells the story of two best friends, Fabio and Naama, as they navigate their way between life in the slums and surfing on their favorite beach. Thirteen-year-old Fabio and 12-year-old Naama live in a huge favela near Arpoador Beach, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. What will happen to these best friends? Will their friendship survive the pressures of life in the favela? Can surfing offer a way out and the possibility of a better life?

The film offers a valuable insight into the underside of a country that's about to host the World Cup and the Olympic Games.
This is not your ordinary movie about young men surfing the waves in places like Rio.
Charts the trials of two boys hoping to win a surfing contest to escape the grinding poverty of Rio's Favela.
The sun-kissed footage of the kids seizing the opportunity to escape from the hardships of their home lives may not be particularly spectacular, but their stories are laced with poignancy.
There's salt on its skin, samba in its bones. It's a film you don't so much watch as bask in, fearing sunburn.
This is a happy movie with a swing to it, and a corrective to the fetishisation and glamorisation of gangsterism that sometimes characterises movies about Rio.
Totally, radically life-affirming. Will make you reassess the important things.
