B movie means it doesn't have the highest budget, the best actors or the most marketing. Which confuses me because this by definition is not a B movie I think anymore 100 million is starting to be considered an "average" budget.
Roeper, you meant to say "monster movie", not "B movie" (was Hollow Man a B movie..?) Also, for anyone who's never read the original Pierre Boulle novel, DO IT!!
This movie exceeds Harry Potter and the Deathly Halllows by far... I am a HUGE HP fan and when I watched this I was completely blown away by the well crafted writting and superior special effects. I think that this movies is going to grow at the box office in the coming weeks because, I haven't seen a movie this smart in a long time. If people are looking for action this is it, if they are looking for emotion this is it. I can't believe that this is the best movie of the year.
It's better than HP7 Part 1. But HP7 Part 2 is better than Rise of the Apes. In my opinion I think Rise of the Planet of the Apes is an 89% and HP7 Part 2 is it's own deserved 96%.
Just want to say how, "This movie exceeds Harry Potter and the Deathly Halllows by far... I am a HUGE HP fan and..." is such a lie. Just placed there to make a point.
And no, I'm not calling you out on this because you said the film is superior, that's fine, but because it's so obviously dishonest.
How is he dishonest? I am a huge Harry Potter fan as well, and did love the final one. But its a toss up for which one is better or more enjoyable. Apes is a lot faster paced and has a really great performance with amazing special effects. But Harry Potter was the more well rounded movie. So i don't know how you can say he is dishonest with saying he is a big fan.
Jason is completely right. There's no way someone who's a huge Harry Potter fan thinks this movie exceeded the last of that series "by far." I liked them both and you might think this was HP&TDH2's equal as far as story telling, but the blatant hyperbole used by Daniel utterly outs him as a liar.
And, really, what a subjective argument. One may prefer one over the other, but ultimately it's only each person's opinion. The consensus on both was that they were very fine movies.
However, since the only reliable indicator of something so subjective as a personal reaction is consensus, Harry Potter has gotten 15% more positive reviews, for a near-perfect 97%.
B-Movies don't have 90 million dollar budgets and open on 3000+ screens. Why is this guy a movie critic again? Much less a "Top" one. In fact, the "B-picture" doesn't really exist anymore. Studios used to make B-movies to put on the bill with the feature presentation, or "A" picture. That is no longer done. It's one of those terms people throw around to sound like they know what they're talking about, but don't even know what it means.
I agree. There are some here who've taken people's reaction to mean that they think B movies are inferior, but that may not be the reason. In essence, it seems that Roeper considers them inferior, even if that's not necessarily true, and is using the term completely incorrectly.
For me this is a C-movie. C as Cartoon. Many critics don't dare to say anything bad for any well advertised CGI movie. 3000+ screens? They all are just catching good advertising wave.
B movies are low budget, last time I checked state of the art motion capture can't be found in the bargain bin. These days only independent films and made for tv movies are low budget.

Not a single person read to the end of Richard's sentence. He's basically saying it's a B movie plot with amazing special effects on top.
