Known for the stutteringly brilliant lectures he gave at the Hotel Algonquin's now-legendary round table, Robert Benchley was winning over audiences from his very first on-screen appearance in TREASURER'S REPORT. He went on to become one of the 20th century's most-loved humorists, as well as a perceptive satirist and social commentator; this is most apparent in THE WITNESS, which spoofs the McCarthyism that was rampant in Hollywood at the time. Fourteen of Benchley's hilarious shorts are included here, as well as three others starring fellow Algonquin members Alexander Woolcott and Donald Ogden Stewart. [More]
