Critic Review - San Francisco Chronicle

Instead of the usual romantic adventure, Scott and screenwriter Brian Helgeland offer a gritty drama, using the Robin Hood story to depict the birth pangs of liberty. They ground the film in the details of medieval life.

This movie looked good, but was lifeless and poorly paced and could have used more action. It could have been trimmed down by a lot and tightened up. Don't get me started on the historical inaccuracies and anachronisms and the final battle scene was just awful. It's like they tried to rip off Saving Private Ryan, but with oar powered Higgins Boats. I love the historical action movie genre and I was just praying for this one to end.
