What was turning out to be a smart franchise here loses an edge it never quite recovers.

Limiting the gore, but not the carnage, in pursuit of a PG-13 rating and more youngsters, pic remains a cluttered, nasty exercise that seems principally intent on selling action figures.

Top CriticHard to believe that Frank Miller, who's written some great graphic novels, also churned out this dismal script. The absence of Weller doesn't help matters.

Special effects are OK and RoboCop even gets to fly, using a specially designed jetpack. But it's all for naught, as this series has run out of fresh ideas.
