A host of cooler-than-cool voices/cameos (Reed, Anderson, Curry and the B52s) and throwaway humour do keep the adults happy the whole time.

Reviews for The Rugrats Movie
There's something about the film's roving sympathy that gives it surprising depth, mocking and embracing its characters -- adults and kids -- in quick succession.
The result is surprisingly watchable for kids and adults alike, producing only minimal fidgeting.
he film's target audience of little kids should make the production a hit.
The boundless creativity of this franchise's creators and writers never ceases to amaze me.
Television's most popular children's show successfully toddles to the big screen, offering all the sass and cuteness that Rugrats fans expect -- and more.
has more than enough hijinks and gross-out humor to keep the under-10 crowd in hysterics for 90 minutes. Older viewers might catch themselves chuckling as well...
Although it works on two levels, one thing makes it work for any age: the sense of the id unloosed.
As mentioned, there is a good message to the film (one about accepting family members for whom they are), and the pacing is brisk enough so young audiences won't get bored.
The cast is good, but it's nothing they haven't done a million times; the same goes for the animation, music, and general production design.
What is most likely to impress adults is that the world of the Rugrats is not idealized or homogenized.
The dialogue reproduces infantile idiom even as it parodies the baby talk of adults, and a touching, didactic scene involving a baby blanket that's become the object of sibling rivalry may appeal to a broad age range.
The result is a happy blend of smart-aleck humor and wacky adventure.
Like many children's films, The Rugrats Movie is told from the point of view of a boy who enjoys a wonderful relationship with another boy.
Essentially just a big-screen episode of the series, and that's more than enough to satisfy any audience.
