While the film looks great, I am fraid this type of film will get snubbed at the academy like Warrior was in 2011. I could not understand how that movie was snubbed out. Hopefully this film won't get the same lame treatment

Destined to be a classic what? Oscar bound? What academy awards? 95%?
88% on RT and 78% everywhere else. I think that the funniest comment so far is that it is the best auto racing film of all time. Let's see. "Talladega Nights." Tom Cruise's movie (I refuse to look it up) that was basically Top-Gun at the racetrack. Steve McQueen's movie...uh any others? Robert Wagner...There is a reason that nobody produces auto racing films BECAUSE AUTO RACING IS BORING AND THE DRIVERS ARE INCREDIBLY BORING. Oooh wow...Nicky Lauda suggesting Magnesium parts fro a lighter car? No engineer thought of that? Two spoiled rich brats... Wow! These guys feet are so quick! I can bet that 95% of the teenage boys watching this have never even driven a stick before. And if Hunt, James Hunt had been born one decade later he would have died of AIDS. The real Hunt was figured to have laid over 5,000 women including 33 British Airways stews (What flight attendants used to be called.) Wow..What a stud! Wow! How boring is this?
Why did I go? Because my b-in-law used to be in the pit crew for Ricky Rudd....so this was mandatory. I think he had eight or nine orgasms in the first half of the movie. I left and went out into the lobby around the time they were changing Nicky's burn dressings. As a critical care and trauma nurse I didn't need to see this..Thanks Ron!!
Thank heavens I can get Henry V on Netflix.

First of all that was a prediction a month before it came out because I was extremely excited for this. And for your information, this film still received a 89% from the critics with a 94% audience, so the clear majority seem to completely disagree with your critique. You seem to be making a case that this is awful because it is about auto racing, because you personally find auto racing boring. That's an opinion, plain and simple. Two spoiled rich brats? You could say that for almost every athlete, politician, movie star... as if being rich makes you a brat and as if being rich and/or a brat diminishes great accomplishments or in specific their historic rivalry, that is assuming that your assessment of them being just "spoiled rich brats" is valid. And I'm thinking because of your sarcasm about their feet being so quick and how "95% of teenage boys watching this have never driven a stick before" you're one of those people who think that it requires no real skill to be an auto racers, be it Formula-1 or the Nascar. If I'm correct that's a complaint I can't stand. Then you seem to complain about Hunt's habits, even though it's explained that he was like that. Is this a trash James Hunt forum? But honestly, I am impressed that you know what flight attendants used to be called. Airway stews, wow. What deep insight on this film.

hey helen! no need to worry about catching aids because the only person who wants to fuck you is your dog!

Even if it's not "destined to be a classic," having a 88% is not like having a 50%. It may not be 100%, but does it really disqualify you from either awards season, or being considered a very, very, good movie because less that 25 out of about 200 critics didn't like it that much? what?
I thought it was one of the best movies of the year so far, and I'm sorry for you if you weren't able to see the last 30 min - an hour of the movie, because it was really spot-on with the acting and direction.

Just saw it this past weekend. Honestly, this was an easy 9/10. I found this to be much more emotional than I thought it would be. It really hit every emotion. The racing sequences, though some were splotchy or completely skipped, were exhilarating. The final race in Japan was incredible. I also can appreciate that Nikki Lauda helped Ron Howard and Daniel Bruhl throughout. This link will make you appreciate this film more than already before. Some neat facts about the production and real life vs movie. http://www.historyvshollywood.com/reelfaces/rush.php

I'm actually sad. CWACOM got more money the first week. What has this world come to?
Sep 30 - 12:04 PM
Betting for 90%. Some of those lines were classic. Best director goes to Ron Howard. Clue: when you can't really figure out WHO the underdog is, you have a really great movie.
Sep 27 - 11:55 PM
"...when you can't really figure out WHO the underdog is, you have a really great movie." No when you don't CARE who takes the 1976 Grand Prix championship! Grand Prix didn't work in the USA. I'm sure that 98% of the viewers didn't hear the names Nicky Lauda or James Hunt before... can't wait for the big movie about futbol..that's soccer guys! Something else Americans know nothing about...except for David Beckham and Mia Hamm.
Sep 30 - 08:06 PM
Wow you're right. A story can't be told unless everyone knows about it. How strange that a movie tried to share a true story that not many knew about, especially one that was so boring. Auto-racing puts me to sleep
Oct 1 - 11:10 AM
There were some good camera shots but I would not rate this over 70%. To tell the truth I was about to walk out until Nicki Louda was injured. Things stepped up at that point so I stuck it out. I also stayed out of respect for Ron Howard.
Sep 27 - 06:59 PM
Sensitive much? Every time a 'moviegoer' walks out a movie that's not necessarily offensive or difficult to watch (like Rush) I see them as pretentious people who have a high opinion on their own critique. Oh, and Ron Howard doesn't care about your respect and nor does your respect do anything to elevate Ron Howard or the movie.
Sep 28 - 10:16 PM
"To tell the truth I was about to walk out until Nicki Louda was injured." His name is Nicki Lauda. And are you a sadist? You like 2nd and 3rd degree burns?
Pretty typical for auto racing "fans"...can't wait for the crashes!!
Sep 30 - 08:09 PM
Anyone else getting annoyed with her yet?

Sep 25 - 04:51 PM
I'd place it around the 90-95% margin, although I give it a 99-100% myself. Prepare for some awards to be given to this one, it was just excellent.
Sep 25 - 01:17 PM
I don't quite think 95, having seen it, but hopefully high eighties, or low nineties. Ron Howard deserves a Best Director nod, if nothing else.
Sep 24 - 02:04 PM
Just saw this. It was really great. The theater was PACKED.
Sep 23 - 06:11 AM
Bill the Butcher
It'll be solid. I just wish they would of casted someone other than a Hemsworth.
Sep 20 - 09:27 AM
He's a fine actor and if you don't know what James Hunt actually looks like, he fits perfectly
Sep 21 - 09:05 PM
Hemsworth is actually pretty impressive in this. Daniel Bruhl is better as Lauda though.
Sep 24 - 12:02 PM
Chris is a "slightly" better actor than his brother
Sep 20 - 06:13 AM
I say 91-92%. I also see this as a huge contender in the sound category come Oscars next year.
Sep 20 - 05:49 AM
I'd wager eighty-something. It doesn't look as Oscar-baity as you might expect, and it's release date is earlier than say, 12 Years A Slave. I'll be seeing it at the weekend, so I guess I can make up my mind for sure then.
Sep 18 - 12:40 PM
89% at the time of writing. Just saw it this evening and it is a brilliantly acted, fast paced gem of a film. It may not get any oscars, but it rates 95%+ on my own tomatometer. Highly recommended.
Sep 17 - 08:18 PM
I'm thinking it will be 80-85%.
Sep 17 - 04:45 PM
around 90%. should be like 100% though, it was great.
Sep 17 - 07:57 AM
Also, I predict in the mid to lower 90% range
Sep 12 - 05:52 AM
The movie will do just fine in the United States. Sure, some people will go to it thinking its about "NASCAR" (because uninformaed people here think all auto-racing is NASCAR :x ) I'm a huge auto-racing fan and I know I will enjoy this film. There's been a lot of ads here and I'm sure it will seel just fine to the United States.
Sep 12 - 05:51 AM
lol, and agreed
Sep 12 - 11:40 AM
Hoping it stays in the 90s. Really excited to see this one regardless of its tomatometer
Sep 11 - 10:06 AM
Sep 11 - 06:52 AM
92% looks great, will go see. Love classic F1 history such great personalities.

maybe a bit too long
Sep 8 - 03:58 AM
Sep 4 - 01:21 PM
I predict 86-88%. As for a personal preiction: 4.5/5 I'm seeing it in 90 minutes, so I'll soon find out :D
Sep 3 - 11:08 AM
Aug 31 - 08:22 AM
You know what? I think it will not do good in the United States. Can't see a movie doing good in today's market about formula one in the 1970's. Europe maybe, USA no.
Aug 29 - 05:29 PM
I disagree. I'm not a fan of motor racing or F1 at all. But this is a great film, one of the few films I've seen this year worthy of a high rating. It'll probably slip just below 90% on here, even though I think it deserves to be a bit higher.
