Wow, this guy MUST be senile. He cannot stay focused on reviewing the film. He just keeps talking about "better" war movies. He just writes and writes with no purpose.
Your wrong buddy! You don't like the blood and guts through the movie? Well thats war pal. Yes they did use flamethrowes alot in the Europe campain; on bunkers and such. The film shows how each solider views and deals with the war in their own way. Wether it is a guy from Brooklyn or a left haned sniper- did you notice that while you were pickin apart the film? Who are you to say that it didn't happen that way for them? How can you fault him for making a realistic movie? It's actually too real for you?
pseudo-intellectuals SUCK. YOU'RE NOT SMARTER THAN US BECAUSE YOU USE A THESAURUS WHEN YOU WRITE. And you obviously missed the point of the movie. Or as somone like you would say, you're microscopic, disenchanted views on the realities of war and cinema are horrendously skewed and misguided. RESPEK MY SH1T
Wow, you must hate all movies if you didn't like this one. I find bad reviews tedious, like yours for instance and uninformative. Manipulative? I think you missed something in the middle, beginning and end...typical critic.
Saving Private Ryan BENEFITS from its absence of a manic vision like that applied to "Full Metal Jacket" and "Platoon." Additionally, "FMJ" and "Platoon" are Vietnam movies, dealing with an almost completely different sense of pathos, seeing as how we lost that war. So American war movies dealing with that war usually speak to us about how much it sucked, while "Saving Private Ryan" was an attempt to portray in the grittiest, most honest way possible the heroics and bravery of a great and honorable war that we won. Geezus, what a dummy.
I don't know you Andrew, but I simply know this as a matter of fact ... you have to have make some kinda changes towards your viewing senses. What on earth you want from a movie which has everything ..... I mean it everything, and that's crap as no one even have lived (critics) in those circumstances of such wars(nor private nor anything) and still you think its very manipulative. Pity you are microscopic...
There's a scene in the movie where a Nazi could of killed Upham but decided not to, thus not portraying Nazis' humanly not like the monsters you suggest this movie shows them as. Also this film as been praised for its accuracy, so I don't believe you are in place to criticize it. Also Full Metal Jacket was released in 1987 not 1989
