Violent, harrowing, and horrific; you bet. This is not a movie to take your children to see, or even a date. And it's definitely not worth seeing alone. How the ratings board gave this movie an "R" rating is a mystery. Well, maybe not.
So? should we forget that World War 2 even happened or should we take out the gore and air it on the Disney channel? The movie was make in a realistic respectful manner, and your right war is not for kids or a date. Just because your squeamish doesn't make it a bad movie, your review isn't even about the movie.
i'm really surprised for your ***** rating. you think war is a children game you moron?? you cannot deny the facts, war is terrible, violent, like the movie. and, who tell to see with your children?? how can you be such an a$$hole??

so all you paid attention to was the fact that it actually portrayed war accurately and didn't edit it like disney channel? did you even try to pay attention to the movie or did you just ignore it as soon as you heard the first gunshot?

i cannot express in a comment how much this review makes me want to punch you in the face. U gave the movie a C- basically because ur afraid of blood. Did you even notice how beautiful every frame of the movie was? Did you even ounce focus on the amazing performance of all the actors? There is no way you can say that Steven Spielberg shot this movie to feel cool. Oh my god you make me so mad! And you clearly don't know anything about D-Day. It was the turning point of the war. It was the beginning of the downfall of the Axis and the victory of the Allies. So don't say that it was a "huge mistake". That battle should be honored and glorified. Go ahead and read that last paragraph to my grandfather, and see his reaction. Get some respect.
You're an idiot. It's a historical movie ment to teach you something you moron. It's R because you expect to see blood guts and intestines in a WWII movie of this caliber. Honestly find a better job. You're no good at this one.
SPR is damn brilliant before Spielberg brings in his over-sentimentality and ruins it near the end. I don't know if this is a true story or not, but to my eye the whole concept of the movie is fundamentally flawed: a squad was sent to save 1 guy because his family lost 2 of his brothers. But to do that, they sent a squad, most of who were killed, thereby leaving even more upset family members. I highly doubt a situation like that is even remotely plausable.
Platoon, Full Metal Jacket, Thin Red Line, Apocalypse Now [I'm not even going into the old B&W films] are all better movies, but maybe not as well 'shot' as SPR [and that is highly debateably. Just look at the lush forests of Platoon & Apocalypse Now]
1. Okinawa was the battle with the most casualties. 2. the historians you know must be credible seeing as most historians, including myself, would suggest that D-Day was largely EFFECTIVE (the estimated casualties were much greater in fact and, aside from Omaha beach, what you see in the movie, many armies came close to their day 1 objectives) and 3. i'd like to hear your plan of advance to 'swiftly' strike Berlin when SS units and Wehrmacht were ubiquitous throughout europe and would have had little issue creating a POW pocket. Terrible review.
Obviously I could agree this is not a movie to take your children to see. But then again, how many R films do you take your children to go see? The board gave it a R because it's a bloody and violent war movie, not a porn film and it doesn't show real people being killed. Maybe you should pull that finger out of your mouth and get a life and ditch your boyfriend you a##hole.
I won't insult or say anything about the reviewer, but I will have you know that this is a beautifully made film that never ceases to shock or disturb and is meant to do just that. This review seems to be a desperate cry for attention.
Well the first things that I think about when I go to see a movie are the marketing strategy and military blunders associated with battles portrayed in the movie. Are there any alterior motives? Has the director made comments that may be trying to coerce my children into murder? Should my military have invaded Normandy? All of these things should be in a movie review.
Oh, wait, no they shouldn't. Well, that being the case, your review seems rather foolish doesn't it? If you can't put your silly bald head to work doing something else, at least review the movie itself.
And for the record, Saving Private Ryan was a brilliant portrayal of the "harrowing" and "horrific" violence that, unfortunately, is a part of war. The movie was incredibly moving. It's one of the best of all time.
