According to Bloody-Disgusting.com, Mr. Hackl has been signed to direct not only Saw 5 ... but Saw 6 also. Yep, early plans seem to be in motion for the next two sequels of the tummy-churning horror franchise. (And since I liked the first three flicks, I'll hold my judgments for now.)
Fans can (of course) expect Bousman's Saw 4 to hit theaters this October with an audible whack -- and undoubtedly a nice little ka-ching at the box office. Everyone seems to think the "hardcore horror" phase is over, but I won't believe that until a Saw flick fails to turn a tidy profit.

Bear45 writes: on Jul 19 2007 10:30 AM I know a lot of nerds come on here and just complain and talk negatively about films that haven't even been released yet, but I don't want to complain... I just want to predict; and I predict that Saw4 will have a huge opening (maybe $32mil) and then drop off after that. This Halloween will be Saw's death. FYI: I liked 1 & 2, but 3 was SO forced. Hurmoth writes: on Jul 19 2007 11:06 AM I'm very excited to see Saw IV, I loved the first three, so I'm like Scott here, I'll hold off on judging Saw V and VI until I actually get to see them. If they're already announcing two more Saw films, then I've got a feeling that they've already got a story prepared, maybe not a screenplay, but a story though and I'm excited to see the direction that the writers take us in. I Am Remote writes: on Jul 19 2007 01:54 PM III was an improvement over II (which was not written as a Saw film, and showed it), so I'll be checking out IV. My loyalty to the series is waning, however. (Reply to this) |

IMAmoose24 writes: on Jul 19 2007 02:06 PM Saw II= Bad. This is where I stopped watching the saw series all together. I came out of 300 a little disappointed. I think this was only because I went in there expecting it to be one of the greatest movies ever, and it came out just pretty good. However, Transformers was awesome. (Reply to this) |

unbreakable_samurai writes: on Jul 19 2007 02:59 PM I don't really care about the Saw films, they are ok at best and seem to steadily get worse as they come. But that is cool that they are handing over the rains to one of their own, who's been involved to a lesser extent with the series to this point. (Reply to this) |

justice_rehnquist writes: on Jul 19 2007 04:33 PM Let's be straight about the Saw series. The Saw series has been excellent, well written and well directed. All three Saw films have been thoroughly enjoyable films. I loved the direction Saw 2 took, and the story of Saw 3 about the fate of Jigsaw and Amanda's relationship was a very credible, and believable one. Again, the Saw series represents the best thriler/horror trilogy in recent decades. Compared to Nightmare on Elm Street, Halloween, Friday the 13th, not one of these series has maintained the integrity of the Saw films. Not one. I challenge any fan of horror to identify a better horror series. James Wan and Darren Lynn Bousman have crafted a great Saw series. I am very excited about Saw 4 and I'm looking very forward to Rob Zombie's Halloween. After Devil's Rejects, in my opinion Zombie is the director to revive the Halloween franchise. (Reply to this) |

knowingtoast85 writes: on Jul 19 2007 09:39 PM In reply to this comment (#949312) You do have a point, one that I don't think "Saw" fans or haters can build much of an argument against. The films are very consistent, regardless of your opinion of them. But if you're asking for good horror trilogies, try out: Argento's Three Mothers trilogy (admittedly, won't be complete until "La Terza Madre" comes out some time this year) Raimi's Evil Dead Trilogy Romero's Dead Trilogy Some (or all) of which you may have seen.
