Saw Director Cutting into 'Hellraiser' Franchise?
Monday, May 5, 2008

By: MrDisgusting
Comments

Director Darren Lynn Bousman has officially been asked to direct the remake to Hellraiser, filling the shoes of the French filmmakers Alexandre Bustillo and Julien Maury (who left the project a few weeks ago). When we were initially told the news (probably the same night as other websites reporting this), we checked in with Bousman who still denies that he will have anything to do with the return of Pinhead. Even though the director of SAW II-IV claims to have nothing to do with the project, insiders tell us the Weinsteins WANT HIM on the project ASAP. This would re-team Bousman with SAW writers Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton. Watch or an update soon on something that's official. Bousman is currently prepping REPO! THE GENETIC OPERA for release via Lionsgate.

Oh thats good, So we will have hellraiser plus 8 sequels of hellraiser every 8 months. Thanks but no thaks. I love remakes but i hate hellraiser and saw, And that fact that there is a new saw movie every 2-3 months makes it even more wrong.

Not the biggest SAW fan, so I don't really know what to think of this news.

The Weinsteins and Dimension simply put do not want a Barker vision or the intriguing Bustillo/Maury vision they want their own money making Saw franchise starring Pinhead. Forget a really creative experience or kickass disturbing horror film we are going to get nothing but a supernatural version of Saw. Only scary thing is it will make tons of cash.

The Weinsteins haven't dissappointed me yet. Maybe that's because I'm exceptionally easy to please. I think there's a chance here for something really very interesting/f'd. If this goes into sequel critical mass production then I'd say that it's gone a bit too bar. I think you get one shot on this one.

Has Bousman even gotten started on his 'Scanners' remake yet? As far as I can tell, he hasn't even finished filming his 'Fear Itself' episode either. If the Weinsteins do want Bousman to direct this, then they'll have to wait a while before he's even available to start pre-production.

I know most people will blast me for this comment, but, I do think Rob Zombie would be an amazing choice for the role. I mean think about it. Both Rob and Clive Barker are talented artists and Hellraiser has a very artisitc feel to it (if you really think about it). They both enjoy torture in their movies, which is the basis of the Cenobites. I dunno, I really think Rob could pull it off. And considering (I feel) Saw went downhill after James Wan stopped directing (part 1), I don't have too much faith in Bousman. Oh well...time will tell I guess. But, for the love of God, Barker had BETTER BE writing or supervising the script or I will just plain riot.

NO FUCKING WAY! One of the WORST issues of the SAW films was the direction for pits sake!!!! Hell even Madonna could do a better job directing than him. Sorry if i offend the SAW fan boys but every time i saw a..SAW film i would ALWAYS say : it would have been sooo much better if the director wasn't so crap. Geez, way to go..

You're absolutely right, Mr. appleOFdiscord. While some actors may be better than others, there are directors who are more demanding and know how to get a better performance out of their cast. Not to mention angles, lighting and atmosphere. That's definitely what set Saw apart from its sequels. And when someone handed this guy the piece-of-cake, par-for-the-course, run-of-the-mill screenplays for the Saw sequels and he fucked them up this bad, just imagine how out of his league he's going to be when Clive Barker hands him the screenplay he wrote (or at least co-wrote) himself. Still, I have to admit that such a situation is still more hopeful than waiting for a 4 year old baboon to crack cold fusion.

The thing about saw 2-4 is, they sucked. Saw one was great. But Bousman is NOT the guy for this project, there are worst directors, but they need a real visionary, someone extremely creative and original, thats not him at all. Clive Barker was extremely creative, not just a point and shoot director, there was a method to his madness. Typical of Dimension, no clue what the f*ck they are doing, like hey lets remake Halloween...who can we get....rob zombie, great idea! Yeesh, i hate dimension, they suck.

great this is going to fucking blow just like saw 2 and 4

Does everyone forget Hellraisers III- infinity? Each successive film moved further from the source material and they all SUCKED! A re-boot could borrow a director from Hannah Montana and be no worse than the crap we've already endured. Bousman may not be everyones first choice but he is established, his track record is commercially successful and he works in the hard R arena a Hellraiser movie needs. Say what you want but he won't make a "safe" Hellraiser.

Mr. tszilla, you have hit the nail on the dick man! Everyone seems to have forgotten the fact that the latter Hellraiser movies were total shit bags. No matter who they bring to direct, the remake is going to be a hell of a lot better than most of the previous sequels and from a marketing point of view, Bousman is a correct choice. I mean, he at least aint Uwe Boll , right?

All the Hellraiser movies suck, they should never have made any of them, the first one was the most dull, boring horror movie ever made. None of them made any money because they were made on very low budgets. Dimemsion should save money and time and stop making this stupid movie. Dimension you will have no success with this remake,it's a waste of time putting it on the big screen, just stop making or send it to dvd stores. A saw2 remake would have more success.

depecheanix

He's quite possibly the worst modern horror director around... terrible news.

Also to the moron above me, the first Hellraiser film made tonnes of money unexpectedly. Learn the facts before you spout nonsense.

The first hellraiser made around 15 million dollers,it was not a smash hit and did not deserve to have seven sequels and a remake. I do not understand why Dimension think remaking Hellraiser is a good idea. It will come out the same month as Friday the 13th next year, most horror fans will see Jason and not care about Pinhead. If Darren Lynn Bousman does agree to direct this film he may bring some success because his saw films were all smash hits,Something the Hellraiser Franchise has never had.

horrorfiend81

So I have been reading these pathetic comments from pathetic people bashing the highly talented and succesful horror director, Mr. Darren Lynn Bousman. First of all, he is wayyyyyy too good to do a reamke of Hellraiser in the first place but the Weinsteins want him so bad to do it because he is smart, knows what he wants in regards to direction, shots, lighting, etc. and overall that he will deliver an interesting new take on Hellraiser. Second, you fucking dip shits on here are always complaining of why Hollywood always resorts to churning out "tired" and "weak" PG-13 horror flicks whether they are remakes or not. Darren (also including Eli Roth, James Wan, Rob Zombie and Alexandre Aja) is one of the top directors who makes and fights for his movies to earn and deserve that R rating that you assholes are bitching and complaining that horror movies of this generation are lacking. You people on here are never happy and make me so sick to my stomach. Nevertheless, you fuckers can say what you want about Darren but guess what...he has the brains, ability and drive to direct projects, horror or not, and will continue to get calls to direct. Most of all, he has money in his bank account. You stupid dick heads can only dream of even being in the same vacinity as him. So I do have a question for all you haters on here, what the hell do you do for a living, huh? I mean what do you do besides bash talented people? Explain because I'm sure it's nowhere near as important at all. Shut the fuck up, get your fat fucking ass off of the computer and do something meaningful for once in your life besides tearing other people down. Jealousy's a bitch!!!

I agree, Darren Lynn Bousman is the best and the only hope of success for the Hellraiser Remake. Saw 2,3 and 4 were a huge success. They made more money then all 8 Hellraiser films ever did.

Darren Lynn Bousman is NOT the original SAW director, James Wan is....Bousman is the reason why the SAW franchise hasn't been as good as the first one so i dont hav much faith in him....but...REPO does look like it has potential

Looking forward to this, loved bousmans work for saw 2 & 3 and love the hellraiser franchise, weel up until hellraiser inferno cos that was just crap!!! Never beat the originals but can you imagine how good the effects will be now i mean they were good for the time the original was out but now there gonna be fucking brilliant especially the bit where frank comes up through the floor!!
