"Saw" Director James Wan Talks "Saw IV"
Writer/director James Wan is prepping for the big-screen debut of his latest project, "Dead Silence," on March 23 -- but since he's also part of the creative engine driving the "Saw" franchise, that prepping involves answering a bunch of questions about this year's "Saw IV," expected in October. Luckily for fans, Wan is happy to oblige, and spilled a few (admittedly vague) details to IGN Movies recently.
Though no director has been named, and the script is still in development, Wan was able to provide a few clues as to where "Saw IV" might take the story -- an especially pertinent question given the third installment's ending:

"That's kind of a weird one to answer only because pretty much all of the 'Saw' films take place in so many different timelines...Sometimes the film touches here, but then it goes all the way forward but then it goes all the way backward again. It does touch on so many different time frames. Is it a prequel or sequel? It's kind of all intermixed. We jump everywhere, and 'Saw III' did setup a lot of elements where 'Saw IV' may end up going."
Next on the docket for Wan and partner Leigh Whannell? Perhaps an excursion into sci-fi noir. Yes, you read that right.

on Jan 23 2007 02:25 AM the last one was really anoying but at least the gore was ok. the second was "good" because it was somewhat different then part one. and this is always good while it keeps a franchise fresh. the first was the best cus people killing each other to safe themselfs. come to think of it part 3 was original enough to turn the the story of part 1 around. safe another to safe yourself. but the crappy editing, music and directing made part 3 more like a test for the viewer then for the victems in the movie. part 4 will be a good idea because it offers at least some good scares at haloween and everybody wants to see new creative ideas to mangle another person. but given the ending of 3 i've got no clue what to do with the story. since the story is all about jigsaw. on Jan 23 2007 09:49 AM I honestly don't know which is more odd: that people still pay to see these movies, or that there are people who believe that creatively, they still need to explore the Saw universe and make more of them. Forgive me for getting political, but in an age when there are leaders of countries that will put people through meat grinders, cut off limbs, rape wives in front of their husbands, pour acid over people's bodies, and gas them with chemical weapons, we here in the United States will simultaneously condemn our President for removing such a person while paying millions of dollars to be entertained by a fictional character doing the same thing. on Jan 23 2007 12:47 PM [b]SAW series= A gorehound's dream[/b] I love the saw series!!!! The series is every gorehound's dream!!!! I also say keep them coming!!! I can't wait for 4!!! Any finally after a long wait I got 3 on dvd today!!! I think these movies keep getting better as they go on!!! The more gore the merrier!!! I wish though that darren lynn bousman would stay for 4! I liked his saw movies more then 1 which was more of a thriller then a horror movie!!! (Reply to this) |
