The result is another crude comedy that finds laughs in a series of outrageous situations. Working from a script by first-timers Peter Gaulke and Gerry Swallow, the film tells the confused story of orphan Gilly Noble (Chris Klein), who is employed at an animal shelter in Shelbyville, Indiana. When he lands in the barber's chair of the beautiful Jo Wingfield (Heather Graham), he's convinced he's found the woman of his dreams. A passionate, steamy romance develops, but when Gilly finds out that he and Jo are actually offspring from the same parents, Valdine (Sally Field) and Walter Wingfield (Richard Jenkins), he becomes a social outcast. Jo flees to Beaver, Oregon, to reunite with her former fiancé, the wealthy but conniving Jack Mitchelson (Eddie Cibrian), but when Gilly learns that he isn't Jo's brother after all, he must track her down to win back her affections. Unfortunately, Valdine wants Jack's money, so she will do whatever it takes to keep the truth from coming out. Featuring likeable performances by both Klein and Graham, Rogers's debut is a raucous comedy with a solid supporting cast. [More]

What we have here is a wannabe-outrageous comedy that flirts with the last taboo but then retreats. Full Review |

Flat, borderline banal comedy that in theory includes all the ingredients of the Farrelly brothers (who here serve as producers) about the seemingly incestuous relationship between siblings Chris Klein and Heather Graham Full Review |

The Farrelly brothers, Bobby and Peter, are beginning to make the same mistake that the Zucker brothers (Jerry and David, along with Jim Abrahams) made, which was to split up and take increasingly less responsibility for their films. Full Review |

Poor timing and muffed set pieces are compounded by implausibility and inconsequence. Full Review |

This movie sinks or swims on its humor, and frankly, the Farrellys don't appear to have been very good swimming instructors. Full Review |

If it were up to me, I would make sure the Farrellys never made another film, or at least that I never had to see another. Full Review |

Credit goes largely to the charm of Ms. Graham and Mr. Klein, both of whom exude a natural, sunny innocence that contrasts starkly with the naughty incest jokes swirling around them. Full Review |

First-time director J. B. Rogers and new screenwriters Peter Gualke and Jerry Swallow appear determined to include as many gross-out scenes as possible at the expense of telling a believable story. Full Review |
