There's a fine line between funny and just plain sick; this movie goes way beyond that line.

So here it is, SCARY MOVIE 2, featuring the return of Shawn and Marlon Wayans as well as Anna Faris and Regina Hall in addition to some new faces added to the gross-out fun, including Chris Elliott as a caretaker with a deformed hand that he uses extensively in his cooking, Tim Curry as a professor with a thing for the girls, David Cross as a wheelchair-bound computer geek with a great combover, and Tori Spelling as a hot teenager looking for some ghostly action. The movie begins with a prologue that spoofs THE EXORCIST, with Andy Richter as the young priest, James Woods as the old priest, and Natasha Lyonne as the poor possessed child with the salty tongue. From there the plot uses and abuses from Shirley Jackson's THE HAUNTING--in this case, a group of college students must spend a weekend in a haunted castle in exchange for receiving an A from their naughty professor. Once again Keenen Ivory Wayans directs, this time borrowing liberally from such classic (and not-so-classic) films as THE LEGEND OF HELL HOUSE, FRIDAY THE 13TH, HOUSE ON HAUNTED HILL, POLTERGEIST, GHOSTBUSTERS, AMERICAN PIE, PAULIE, THE ENTITY, THE INVISIBLE MAN, DIRTY HARRY, WHAT LIES BENEATH, THE AMITYVILLE HORROR, ROCKY, CAT PEOPLE, THE FOG, CHARLIE'S ANGELS, TWISTER, CHARLIE'S ANGELS, M:I-2, and CROUCHING TIGER, HIDDEN DRAGON, among countless others. Reviews for Scary Movie 2
just goes through the motions of parodying one movie after another without any apparent stab at wit or humor
Some will find this funny. Some people laugh themselves silly flushing the toilet over and over.
Is pretty thin and uninspired outside of one or two modestly clever gags.
Watching Scary Movie 2 is like Chinese water torture -- you start dreading the next drip long before it drops.
To get any enjoyment out of the original, you had to leave your brains at home. With the sequel, remember to leave your stomachs, too.
Since the first film, which came out only last year, exhausted the supply of Scream-I Know What You Did Last Summer-Halloween and Friday the 13th gags, Scary 2 is just leftovers.
Gone is the surprise, the laughter of disbelief that made Scary Movie such a vacation from civility.
Perhaps, in a rare instance of subtle social satire, this film is being released on July 4 to remind America of the high cost of freedom of speech.
So desperately unfunny that you wish someone would sue for false advertising.
Because there is little scene-by-scene coherence, the story becomes little more than the sum of its 'quotes.'
Without the relatively tight focus of Scream movies to draw upon, Scary Movie 2 is scattered and more than a little starved for inspiration.
The gags are fresh (so to speak), but the tone and execution are oh-so-exactly the same -- as McSequels go, this one's a pièce de résistance of satisfied expectations.
The problem is that Wayans and his raft of writers, including his brothers Marlon and Shawn, who are also among the film's stars, begin on such an extreme, in-your-face note that they have no place to go.
Aside from a few genuinely funny gags, this motion picture represents an 80-minute exercise into tedium that does little more than re-hash the first outing.
You'd have to see as many movies as Roger Ebert, bone up on current events and pay attention to TV commercials to just pick up on the would-be jokes.
Wanders from joke to joke with not enough narrative -- or blood -- to make it all stick together.
