"Scream 4" Might Happen ... But It Won't Be With Neve
by Scott Weinberg | September 16, 2005
Discuss Article
Joe Utichi of FilmFocus.co.uk was fortunate enough to sit down for a chat with the lovely Ms. Neve Campbell, and she shared her decision that, nope, she will not be returning if and when Wes Craven decides to hop back into the franchise chair and direct a "Scream 4."

""We were really lucky with the "Scream" films to actually make a good trilogy, I think it's very challenging to find other films that have done that properly," she told FilmFocus, "but I think it was a good idea for me to stop there. They are going to go ahead and make a "Scream 4," I guess they're casting it right now and it was offered to me; but to me, for Sidney, it just doesn't make sense."

And why the change of heart? Logic, of course. "Sidney Prescott should have gone insane in the second Scream," she joked, "It was hard for them to get me to do the third one; how far can you go with a character whose friends have either all tried to kill her or died? The only way I could be in "Scream 4" is in an insane asylum in a straight-jacket."

For a little more chit-chat between Joe and Neve, head on over to FilmFocus and get the scoop.

Neve was one of the main reasons I would even bother seeing Scream 4

this is ridiculous...theyre totally ruining Scream...its like whats happened to all classic thrillers...the first was the best and always will be and the second was awesome too and the third not so much and now a fourth?! you gotta be sh*tting me...neve is smart and should stay away from this because it could ruin her career unless by some miracle this movie is actually good...theres just no mystery any more

Neve Campbell has no career, but she does have dignity, a very rare trait found in Holywood actors. The movies started sucking once they made the second one. Should have quit there. When will these people learn? Well, at least Neve did.

Neve Campbell at this point has no career, really, as Blue Arc said. She hasn't had many parts in the last few years. When Will I Be Loved was a complete disaster. The Scream movies were really the only thing that kept her going. I actually thought the first one was splendid. The second one was a horrible version of the first, and the third one was a decent film. A fourth one.. well, you'd have to have a VERY creative and dedicated person to write the script. This fourth one would have to be more like a Gothika type of movie, where the victim goes insane and gets scared out of her wits. That, my friends, would be terrible for the series. I guess it'd be okay if they basically did another film like the first one, with new characters. But it would never be the same, I reckon.

Eh, they just can't think of anything better to write, so they basically said, "hey, let's just do another Scream."

about Neve
If there is a going to be a scream4 there has to be Neve Campbell in it because it was good with her in it. Also if you do the script real good i think she will be in it.

Wow.....i'd kill to have her produce create a Robert Altman film no career....

she received koodoos for her role last year........

just because she isnt pulling a halle berry/charlize theron action hero route doesnt mean she has no career...

What's gonna happen?

There have been a series of murders with some kids in a high school (i know, typical). The deaths have been linked to Sydney's (Campbell) friends who died.
Sydney is in an insane asylum in a straight-jacket. No one knows she's there expect Deputy Dewey and Courtney Cox. Courtney is reporting the murders on tv as Sydney watches. She becomes hysterical that it's happening again.

The killer leaves notes telling Sydney to reveal herself. After, another murder, Courtney goes to Sydney and tells her that she has a plan to get the killer. Sydney refuses but Courtney reminds her its a sequal and they're getting paid. Sydney agrees.

They venture out to find the killer and after a hair-raising experience it turns out to be Wes Craven.

Way to go Neve Cambell, this movie is gonna suck. next thing you know wes craven will try and make a red eye sequal. why cant they just let the trilogy rest in peace!! i dont care what anyone says i think this is one of the greatest trilogys ever made. and to whoever said Neve Cambell has no career is retarded

I second nickb's comment. If they make a Scream 4 at all, it should be a prequel rather than another sequal. They should show how the story all began from Sidney's mother's roots to her murder by Billy Loomis. That would make it "possibly" good. But Neve is right about staying away from it. And like nickb said, SHE HAS A CAREER!! However, I'd also like to see her back in the mainstream, myself.

without Neve scream would never be good, you might not agree but with everything Sidney has been through she so should be the killer. And even if people think thats rubbish it would still make scream 4 better then not havein her in at all!

PS: Billy Loomis rules as the killer in scream 1 and always will!

I agree if Scream 4 is made its gonna have to be a prequel....the scream trilogy ended with no where to go. It would be interesting to see Maureen Prescotts murder...Roman approaching Billy and Stu, the affair with Cotton etc etc.... But for that to really be successful...it would have to be the original cast members.....(who are all now like 13 years older lol)
Its a stretch....but i think Hollywoods just crazy enough to do it :p

IF WES DOESNT MAKE SCREAM 4 PEOPLE WILL SOON FORGET SCREAM EVER EXCITED!.....
IF NEVE WONT ACT IN SCREAM 4 THERE SHOULDNT BE ANY OTHER SCREAM!!
I AGREE WITH U ON THAT.
I LOOKED NEVE'S SALARY ON EVERY MOVIE SHE ACTED AND SHE MADE MOST MONEY ON SCREAM AND
I HOPE SHE WILL DO IT AGAIN!

I always thought that Scream 3 should have had sidney in a mental institution at the beginning and then have her killed off in the first 10 minutes, then have the movie return to Woodsboro where Dewy is the star and a whole new cast of charecters gets butchered. It's funny that Neve siad that the only way she could return is in a straight jacket. They killed off Jamie Lee Curtis in Halloween Resurrection (garbage) the same way a while after I had already thought of this. But Scream 4? Why not? I'd wait another 5 years though and then they could really re-invite the franchise. Scream goes to Hollywood was one of the worst ideas EVER. Bottome line, Scream 3 SUCKED.

Neve has been in every scream movie in the whole tirlogy. Sidney Prescot(Neve), and her mother's murder is the whole thing of the trilogy, so without Neve I dont think they should make a 4th scream.

I've always thought that if they do another one that it should be a prequel and show everything that happened with her mom. Kind of to stay in the same track of the others without having to involve Neve
