Mike Myers Tackling New Secret Life of Walter Mitty Screenplay
Another twist for the long-brewing remake.
Mark Waters' planned remake of The Secret Life of Walter Mitty was derailed a few years ago, but the director is still interested in bringing it to the screen -- and he isn't alone.
MTV Movies reports that the project has acquired a new screenwriter, and given the right set of circumstances, Waters' involvement isn't out of the question:
"Mike Myers is taking it over completely, throwing out the screenplay. He's starting over with a new screenplay that he's going to write. I may end up circling back to it because Mike and I have developed things together. If his screenplay ends up really great, I might end up jumping back into it with him."
As MTV notes, Waters' take on Mitty came "THIS close" to the screen in 2005, with Owen Wilson and Scarlett Johansson attached -- but then disaster struck:
"We had a green-lit movie at Paramount, it was ready to go. I came right to the edge of the cliff...and basically we were shooting in New Orleans and starting to build our stages when Katrina hit. We had to kind of to drop back and reconfigure, and suddenly Owen was taking other projects and I was never available."
As discussed last summer, Myers' involvement has been common knowledge for some time -- but Waters' latest comments would seem to indicate that the last known script, written by Jay Kogen and "specifically tailored for Myers," has wound up in the circular file.
A Walter Mitty remake has been on and off the table for years, passing through the hands of Jim Carrey, Steven Spielberg, Ron Howard, and others, all to no avail. Myers is known for taking his time with his projects -- maybe slow and steady wins the race after all?

on Feb 22 2008 07:22 AM It's a great film, and it requires a kine of conservative yet manic energy to pull off. Myers should be perfect for this. (Reply to this) |

on Feb 22 2008 09:14 AM They dumped Jay "Simpsons" Kogen's script? I would have liked to have at least read that. (Reply to this) |

on Feb 23 2008 08:12 AM godda*n it!!!!! If there is one scene in this film involving any type of scottish accent or a fat suit...well...i'll just go right up to Mike Myers and complain, thats what i'll do!! But seriously, Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, and Will Ferrel should star in a film together and they could get all of their cliche bits out of their system at once...the title "Ran Into the Ground."
