So disarming, it's hard to say anything but good things about it.

Seducing Doctor Lewis is a beguiling story of a ragtag fishing community on a tiny, impoverished island who must persuade a young Montreal-based doctor (David Boutin) to live in their town in order to get a much-needed new factory. Over a one-month trial period, the villagers try to satisfy his every need and convince him that their town offers all the charms of a thriving metropolis. Led by their mayor, Germain Lesage (Raymond Bouchard), the villagers rise to the challenge with good-hearted duplicity. However, as their deception continues, it becomes increasingly difficult to maintain. Just as Doctor Lewis begins to respond to the simple “authenticity” of the village, the question arises: how will he feel when he finds out it’s based on lies? The directorial debut of Jean-François Pouliot, Seducing Doctor Lewis is a charming and funny tale, as well as a wry meditation on truth and falsehood. Seducing Doctor Lewis (“La Grande Séduction”) has the rare distinction of being selected for Sundance (Audience Award Winner, World Cinema), Cannes (Closing Night, Director’s Fortnight) and Toronto (Special Presentation). In French Canada, it grossed over eight million dollars, topping even The Lord of the Rings, The Matrix Reloaded, Pirates of the Caribbean and fellow home grown hit The Barbarian Invasions. It went on to be nominated for thirteen Jutra Awards (French-Canada’s Oscar), winning seven, and recently was nominated for eleven Genie Awards (Canadian Oscars). -- © Wellspring Media [More]

Reviews for Seducing Dr. Lewis
Clearly manipulative, but like an elongated, French-speaking episode of 'The Andy Griffith Show,' it mostly manages not to be cloying.
Much of this is very sweet and funny, but frequently the whimsy goes too far and you just wish for it to end.
A movie that reminds viewers benumbed by big movies of the joys of being small, of the deep laughs to be found just beneath a simple surface.
A genuine feel-good movie -- nothing memorable, nothing brilliant, but guaranteed to put you in a good mood.
It's predictable, cloying and sickly sweet, and it'll do nothing but put you into a sugar coma.
Has a quick-thinking, screwball exuberance that doesn't strain itself.
the umpteenth film indebted to Bill Forsythe's never-topped Local Hero
This sweet comedy soundly seduces you with quirky characters, sly wit and a strong dose of charm.
It's all fitfully amusing, thanks in large part to Bouchard's richly comic performance, but the movie is never very involving, and it overstays its welcome by a good, long while.
What follows is only moderately amusing and almost totally lacking in suspense, surprise or even uncertainly.
Wears out its welcome some 20 minutes or so before the end, and leaves the nagging sensation that all this has been done before, and better.
The fish-out-of-water premise is a tried and true one but Seducing Doctor Lewis fails to make much of it, succumbing instead to sentimentality and obvious humor.
The story isn't as funny as it tries to be, but it grows increasingly winning as it goes along.
Amusing, feel-good fable, more genial and modest than a farce, yet propelled by gentle, idiosyncratic characters. While formulaic, it's also whimsical and utterly beguiling.
The makers of Seducing Doctor Lewis have a cute idea, but they milk it for all they can, sometimes to the point of embarrassment.
