THE DARK KNIGHT****Are you ever watching a movie and suddenly you realize you are watching one of the greatest movies ever captured on film? It happens when you watch One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, The Wizard of Oz, Ben-Hur . . . it happens countless times, but whenever it does occur, you feel very
special, don't you? You're included a grand spectacle of the ages.Such is the Dark Knight.I just feel like writing poetry after this movie, because it opens up a deep and unexplored chasm of the human psyche that cannot be tapped or otherwise from different sources, but can only be called forth by a supreme being of supernatural causes. I'm talking about Heath Ledger's performance as the Joker. It's legendary. He breathes--he creates--he MOLDS this character. I do sincerely hope his performance goes down as one of the best in history.PERSEPOLIS**+Persepolis is a bland B&W/Color animated feature from the folks across the pond. I enjoyed Triplets of Belleville, which also came from France, but this one I cannot embrace so warmly. Persepolis starts off as a plausible enough coming of age story, but soon turns into such a boring and convoluted story, you wonder if anyone can squeeze joy out of it. Give me a Pixar or Miyazaki any day over this.WEEDS - SEASON 1****I will admit, I love it when a series does this at the opening of every episode:"Previously on Weeds . . . Silas broke up with his girlfriend, Andy moved in, Celia has cancer . . ."You feel in the loop. Okay, sorry. Weeds pushes the envelope when it comes to series. Not only is the premise provocative, but the writing is pretty over-the-edge as well. And I loved every minute of it. Here are some good lines: (uncensored, beware)"Lupita, what do you call the thing between the dick and the asshole?"Lupita, seeing that these two guys are having a discussion next to a table says, "The coffee table."Mary Louise Parker: "I get it, okay? I'm a bitch ass . . . bitch."The youngest boy: "I'm not gonna cap any motherfuckers."With an engaging story and several moments of real, heartfelt drama . . . Weeds is definitely a series I will be returning to.SEINFELD - SEASONS 1-2***Seinfeld started off kind of rocky, in my opinion. I really enjoyed these seasons . . . mainly because this was the first DVD my parents ever bought. I'm dead serious. Like five years ago they bought this, so I've pretty much memorized every line. Moving on. I don't want to think about these episodes again.SEINFELD -SEASON 3****Really, really good. I'm glad to see it was nominated for the Emmy. Really, really nice and great. (Oh hehehehehehehehe inside joke). In other news, the MID STATE FAIR has come to town! This is so exciting! You know what's fun? Walking through the parking lot. I live in a foofsy town, so I counted like a hundered BMWs, Mercedes', and Lexus's. Unbelievable.Oh, yes, reviews of Airplane!, Bella, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Avatar: The Last Airbender.
