Severance is a human interest story about a drunken drifter's attempts to reconcile with his long estranged daughter. Former Air Force officer Ray Ponti (Lou Liotta) fell apart and lost everything after the auto accident that kills his wife. As the film opens, he hasn't seen his daughter in years. Severance finds inspiration where horror and comedy intersect.
[Smith] paces the gore too unevenly, leaving the cast standing around and griping for vast chunks of time. And the jokes... are either too broad or too underplayed.
...you know that you are about to go on a ride that encompasses comedy, horror and thriller genres.
Gets the mix of gore and grins just right.
One of the best movies I've seen with some utter shit. Guess which is which.
