That Clark's movie isn't livelier, spunkier and more original is truly a shame because the players are all so enjoyable.

Reviews for Shaking the Tree
A few cliched scenes grate, but one looks forward to seeing what Clark will do next; he shows a welcome determination to make films that illuminate out lives.
If you've nothing else to do, it goes down easily, but don't expect much more.
The characters and their problems are both so cliched that it makes you wonder if the filmmakers had ever seen a movie before; didn't they realize how stunningly unoriginal, how worn out and overused, this material was?
