Sharqiya tells the story of a bedouin village in the Israeli Negev that is served by the government with an evacuation order. The protaginist, Kamal, works as a guard in the nearby central bus station and tries to save his village by playing all the angles. The movie plods a long, much like the lives of its characters. But there is a strength to that life that shines through, even in the face of hardship.

I found myself caught up in the story without realizing. It takes mastery to write something so simple and yet so engaging. The plot had a cyclical feel to it.
