Maybe you're not paying attention. Schartz gave the movie a "B", which is very good grade. I agree with him, The Shining is a great film, but it's not 5-star material.

The Shining is no way near a masterpiece, and it is no way near Kubrick's best - but Kubrick did not make soulless films at all.
