CAPTAIN JANUARY: Poor, perennially orphaned Shirley washes up from a shipwreck into the arms of a photogenically crusty lighthouse keeper who raises the little castaway with pluck and determination, qualities she'll need when the nasty truant officer tries to separate the two. Standard Temple plot, but better than average. JUST AROUND THE CORNER: After losing his money during the Depression, Shirley's down-and-out father becomes a maintenance man. But poverty doesn't dim Shirley's spirits, and before long she becomes fast friends with the local millionaire, who, of course, comes to the family's rescue. SUSANNAH OF THE MOUNTIES: Shirley Temple plays the only survivor of an Indian massacre. When she is rescued by mounted police, she is used to aid them in their dealings with the Indians. She then meets a young Indian boy who sparks her romantic interest. [More]
