Both start off reasonably enough, and both films run off the rails by their respective ends. Both are a waste of what is otherwise strong material.

Not at all the same. After seeing the movie, I though Side Effects would have been a good Law and Order episode, but nothing more. To be clear, it is not a bad movie, it just isn't a good movie like Contagion.

No, no it's not. Saw it last night. More of a psychological Hitchcockian thriller. Disease isn't related at all.
