My attention was held for the first act or so. Then any attempt at realism was abandoned, and it became clear that the house, and the movie containing it, were devices to manufacture methodical thrills.
Hmm that's a pity.. I tend to agree with mr. Ebert most of the times, a fact that reduces my pretty high hopes for this movie..We will see though..

If there's one thing I've learned its to never listen to Roger when it comes to horror movies.
The texas chainsaw massacre remake remains one of my favorite recent horror movies and he gave that one Zero stars.
He just seems to be off when it comes to horror. He's still a great critic though

He didn't like the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre, either. Gore for the sake of gore just isn't his thing. But he does like some horror movies; Night of the Living Dead is one of his favorites.

He's given great reviews to "The Shining", "Dawn of the Dead", "Blair Witch Project", "The Exorcist", etc. He's knowledgable enough about horror movies, although like in the case of the original TCM, I disagree with him often.
Although, I agree with you that his zero-star review of the TCM remake was a bizarre overreaction.

From the comments of the reviewers of the film It seems that silent house is not actually a bad film though. It just seems to have a terrible ending but it should be good up untill then. I think Mr Ebert points at the end too..

I read your review from your website Ebert. You say something that happens past the haflway mark (not going to ruin it for others). Next time, mark that as SPOILER ALERT. That ruins half the movie. Why in the hell would you give that away? I'm disappointed in you.

Relax, man. It's not worth anyone seeing anyways. It's like spoiling Twilight.

Don't read the reviews until you have seen the movie. If you are looking to see if a movie is for you or not, just come on this site, see the census, or see the sentence that is chosen to summarize the review, and then after you have seen it, read them.

Watch the video review of Silent House . . .

Pretty much agree with everything Mr. Ebert said in this review. I love horror movies, and at times it did deliver, but after the halfway mark when she went back into the house and all realism I left I was so bored I was just waiting for the movie to be over! Too bad, Elizabeth Olsen is a fabulous actress but it was a letdown for me.
