Instead of seeing this film, watch Vincent Gallo's BUFFALO 66. This film rips it off so much its weird. David O Russell should have said his pale copy of BUFFALO 66 was a remake
Buffalo '66 came out in 1998, i'd be very surprised if Silver Linings author Matthew Quick
hasn't seen it. Way too many similarities in both movies to be a coincidence.
If I had to choose between this movie (with the only good acting coming from everyone other than Jennifer Lawrence) and Buffalo 66, then I'd let Buffalo 66 make change.
Buffalo 66 didn't even cross my mind after seeing this film. Sorry, but I'd have to disagree with you, even if it hadn't been based off of a book. Both great movies, but as Valerie stated, it does have very different character development and family dynamics that make for an entirely different feel.
I hope you know this film is an adaptation of a book, so I doubt Russell had Buffalo 66 in mind. I've seen and love both films. Although there are some distinct differences like the kidnapping, and well the character development--Pat is looking for redemption in an entirely different way; the family dynamic is also different. Other than dealing with dysfunctional family issues, depression, and an unconventional romantic relationship there isn't much else. I have to disagree. It's like saying every star-crossed love story is a ripoff of Romeo & Juliet.
But, i think you should know, that this movie, The Silver Linings Playbook, it's a film based on the book of the same name, of American author Matthew Quick, released on September 2, 2008.
Actually an updated version of Buffalo 66, but with a much better feel good ending. I loved this movie and hope it gets an Oscar, rip off or not. I drove off from the movie singing along with the radio. It feels GOOD to feel good again.
