Madsen, Roth, Murphy, and Sandler to Become "Bastards"?

The always-reliable FilmFocus had an informative little chat with Mr. Michael Madsen during the UK premiere of "Sin City," and the gravel-voiced character actor dished some pretty exciting news about Quentin Tarantino's perpetually upcoming action flick "Inglorious Bastards." Here's what the actor had to say: "Quentin's written it now ... but we've not started shooting yet. I've read it and you know the Dirty Dozen? It's a bit like that."

As far as who a few of his co-stars might be, Madsen offered the following: "It's going to be myself and Tim Roth ... Adam Sandler and Eddie Murphy are in it too." The actor assures FilmFocus' Joe Utichi that the film should begin production before the end of the year. Keep your fingers crossed and check out the FF article for the rest of the scoop.

Earlier this year, he had announced that he would direct his own subtitled martial arts film. He ended up putting it aside for "Bastards."

Murphy and Sandler in a Tarantino film? My curiosity is now officially sparked, I couldn't wait for "bastards" since I heard he was writing it, but now that they have announced this casting decision, I will have a hard time handling the wait to see how it turns out. This could be worse then the wait for "Revenge of the Sith"............ nah, I am only saying that because the wait is over ;).

I wonder if Sandler and Murphy will be playing serious roles or if the movie will have more of a comedic edge? Either way I can pretty much guarantee that this movie will kick ass, QT hasn't failed us yet, and I don't think he will fail us here.

You know I love Sandler and I love Tarantino but putting them together kind of scares me.

Eddie Murphy? Might he finally do a non-kids movie? A GOOD non-kids movie? Holy crap, It's like I'm in 1988.

I'm finding myself inwardly cringing. I have faith in Sandler to meet the high level expected of him in performing whatever QT throws at him. After all, anyone who's seen Punch Drunk Love can vouch that serious, while difficult for him, is not entirely out of reach.

But Eddie Murphy scares me. As DrunkenSuperman so aptly put it, I don't think we've seen a single legitimate effort from him since Beverly Hills Cop. He was luke-warm in Doctor Doolittle, but nothing else has even come close, all the way from Trading Places and Welcome to America, right up to The Haunted Mansion. Quentin's a miracle worker, managing to give personality even to himself, but I'm skeptical if he can salvage an actor's career as well as he can make one.

first off, in order to be a great comedian, you must first be a great actor. this is so you don't

1. forget lines and punches

2. laugh at yourself (comedy loses some effect to this)

3. worry or care what anyone else thinks, no matter what you do or say.

my favorite examples? Don Cheadle (more recognized for slightly comedic roles, Out of Sight, Oceans 11, 12) Jim Carrey, Marlon Wayans, and Jamie Foxx. Jim Carrey from The Mask, to the Majestic, and of course, Eternal Sunshine. Marlon Wayans from Scary Movie, to Requiem for a Dream. Jamie Foxx from Booty Call to his award-winning Ray performance (i mean come on! THAT'S a BIG jump). Take heart! i have faith in Eddie Murphy yet. Especially in the hands of a visionary director, any actor can shine as bright as Brando. (bit of exaggeration there, but whatever...) and as far as QT being able to resurrect an actor's career? hey, Pulp Fiction did it for Travolta... Jackie Brown for Grier....he even brought Carradine back to us (Kill Bill) ....i trust Eddie and Tarantino completely.

I trust Quentin. He's done some amazing things with actors. Maybe he can mold Murphy and Sandler into serious actors. Jim Carrey did it, and he's actually a damn good dramatic actor. I hope this isn't some kind of comedy though...

Actors playing against type is always interesting. And comedians are often fine dramatic actors.

You know, understand that Eddie Murphy's film choices changed with his children. He didn't want to see his kids grow seeing him on screen cussing and killing people. This transition will be a good one/ As Eddie's children grow up, so will Eddie's film choices.
