Excellent acting from all cast! Finally a decent movie from HK! Go through the life of prostitutes and their many challenges as it is afterall an occupation.

Full of such wise Confucian wisdom as, "Better to open the backdoor for the perverts than to something something gigolos" and "A whore is better than a mistress."

though the topic is special, and it has really investigated into the industry. This movie is rather very so-so in terms of its plot. Those so-called emotional scene are too superficial and too sudden.

Okay but not impressed...

One of the best HK film dealing with the prostitution phenomenon. Athena is outstanding.

The elusive Herman Yau will make ten zombie movies in a row, and then suddenly bring forth a touching piece like 2000's Deng hou dong jian hua fa la. Whispers and Moans, a character driven, fast paced and personal drama about the HK sex industy is one of the director's virtually gore-free ones, but nevertheless fails as social comment. When Yau is focused he's good, but here he just lets far too many sloppy stereotypical ideas about happy hookers and the voluntariness of their so-called business slip. Yau needs some genus theory badly.

a PSA sort of film about the different aspects of the Sex-Workers industry (male & female). Maintaining professionalism, sanity, dignity, stress and social prejudice.

This film was a really intriguing look into the lives of sex workers in Hong Kong. The acting was splendid, and the situations were alternately laughable and heartbreaking.

First off, it's an excellent movie for its depth, insight and exploration into the industry. It saddens me not because of what happens to these characters, but because I believe people like these exists in this world. And it's so real... to the director's credit... he let's it be known that he means it when he shows it. May I also mention that this is best acting I have seen from Athena Chu. This is probably her most substantial role ever...by far.

Although this movie talks about prostitution, there is no sex scene or nudity in the movie. I guess it is the few cantonese foul language in the movie to make it Cat.III. As for the movie, the story is quite interesting, it shows the low class life of most Hongkongers. These prostitutes have different goals each on their own. One should mention that Don Li's transsexual character is quite good looking actually!!

Okay, first, to clarify a bit, this is absolutely no pornography. Why is it in Category III? I would say it is because it involves quite a few foul languages and the topic is often too sensitive to most HongKongers.
You don't have to care about the filming techniques, not to mention the actresses. It is the stories to which you should pay attention.
I found the stories depicted shocking and miserable. Try to put yourself in their shoes and get to know them, understand them. They are facing so many problems, with their health, their family, their income, etc. They are humans too and that's why we should never look down on them.
No matter whether you are male or female, you would understand what I am trying to tell when you have time to see this movie. I am glad that I don't have to meet them to know them, just spending 2 hours watching this movie.

interesting topic - prostitution in hk -, the story raises the social issue that the society has ignored.

Not bad at trying to handle a rare topic, the profession of prostitution in hk. It raises some important social issues, but unfortunately merely scrapes the surface and never explores them any further. Could have been much more, but it's not bad at all.

A very special topic and was directed in a simple way by Herman. Not many people notice this movie indeed, but it was a great local film, with local topics, local (foul) languages!

a bevy of beauties (athena chu, mandy chiang, "happy") are featured in this honest attempt to humanize the hk s- ex trade. the acting is fine but the film lacks a focus, gla- zes over the characters' problems, +seems very preachy.
