Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants Cast Talks Summer Sequel
It's three books in one movie. Beat that, Harry Potter!
They've stuck together through four bestselling books and a hit film -- and come August, The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants will attempt to work more box-office magic.
MTV Movies caught up with the cast of Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2 at ShoWest, and took the opportunity to talk to stars America Ferrera, Alexis Bledel, Blake Lively, and Amber Tamblyn about what fans could expect from the Sisterhood's second big-screen go-round.
The sequel arrives three years after the first film, so the characters -- like the stars -- are older and (hopefully) wiser; to that end, the filmmakers decided to condense their source material. As Bledel tells MTV:
This basically picks up where the last one left off -- it's the second, third and fourth books by Ann Brashares, all crammed into one movie. We're older. We're in college in this film, so the themes are a little more mature. ... There's more dating, [and it's about] trying to start your own life when you go off to college. They're each trying to grow individually, while trying to stay connected to their past and to each other.
According to Ferrera, the production was loose enough to allow for a bit of final-scene improv for the stars. The four stars, on location in Greece, noticed people jumping off a cliff into the ocean, and were struck by inspiration. Director Sanaa Hamri recalls:
I was just mulling about, and then [the actresses] all came up to me and said, 'OK, this is what we want to do: We want to jump off cliffs, because we saw these people do it yesterday. In my head I'm going, 'Oh my God, I don't want to lose any of them! They have to be safe!'
The scene, as MTV notes, should provide a sweet final note for fans of the franchise -- and, for viewers who have been dragged along by their girlfriends, it offers the thrill of watching the film's stars jump off a cliff.
Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2 is scheduled for an August 8 release.

bethehero7404 writes: on Mar 27 2008 09:35 AM My wife liked the first one, she read all of the books. I remember when I came home from work on night and she was watching the movie with her sister. They were both bawling their eyes out. The sequel cramming the other books into one movie may not work. Heck, with Harry Potter, people are still mad that there is so much in the novel that doesnt make it on screen. 3 books in one may not be a good idea. They should have these books as a stand alone. But whatever. Great looking cast though. I dont hate it. (Reply to this) |
