To save expenses, two couples--and one big dog--travel westward to Hollywood together, but George Burns and Gracie Allen soon reveal themselves to be a pair of lunatics, nearly driving formerly mild-mannered Charlie Ruggles and Mary Boland to craziness themselves. A stop in a small town adds to the hilarious confusion as a pool-playing sheriff played by W.C. Fields and a nutty innkeeper (Alison Skipworth) do their part to keep everyone's heads spinning. Fields's hapless pool-playing scene will make viewers roll on the floor with laughter. Leo McCarey, director of such comic films as DUCK SOUP and THE AWFUL TRUTH, easily coaxes a deep well of humor from his fine cast in what is essentially a hilarious, nonsensical road comedy. [More]
