It’s the sort of kid’s fare that parents love to get: genuinely smart, genuinely funny, genuinely fun all around.

Most teenagers cringe at the thought of meeting their parents' high expectations--good grades, well-behaved friends, and a plan for the future--and none more so than Will Stronghold (Michael Angarano), the son of legendary superheroes Commander (Kurt Russell) and Jetstream (Kelly Preston). This clever Disney comedy follows Will from his first day as star student at Sky High, an elite school for the children of superheroes. The only problem is that Will apparently has no special powers, and he can't let his parents find out! Lacking the abilities needed to attend hero classes, Will falls in with the misfit sidekicks, whose only powers include turning into a guinea pig, glowing, and melting. However, when an old villain with a new power reappears on the scene, the pressure is on Will and his sidekicks to save his parents, his school, and the earth itself. Perhaps as a tribute to the classic era of teen films, SKY HIGH features a soundtrack bursting with 1980s hits covered by contemporary artists, including Flashlight Brown, Bowling for Soup, and Vitamin C. The film also features performances that will please adult viewers, including a cameo as the school principal by former Wonder Woman Lynda Carter, comedian Dave Foley as a washed up sidekick, and EVIL DEAD star Bruce Campbell as Coach Boomer. Truly fun for all ages, the charming teen stars, fast pace, and universal story make SKY HIGH a clear family classic on par with SIXTEEN CANDLES, SPY KIDS, and NATIONAL LAMPOON'S VACATION. [More]

Reviews for Sky High
Unfortunately, there’s too much deadweight in this listless, unfunny dreck – and it starts with the lead.
[A] pure, sweet pleasure … It's fun. And given its baldly hybrid premise, that's pretty super in itself.
... un film de Disney avec juste un tout petit peu plus de mordant qu’à l’habitude.
Quaint, but funny, a clever and well-acted story plugged into a worn formula.
Any film about superheroes should be redundant but this movie offers a fresh, new take
It is subversive enough for kids to enjoy and mild enough that parents won’t feel threatened.
...an unexpected treat, crossing the superhero saga with the teenage 'coming of age' comedy. It's a clever and often surprising mix that works.
Because Sky High opens with a fantastically entertaining half hour, it's hard not to be disappointed when the film morphs into a routine high school drama...
The film makes up for the paper thin clichéd story-line by having fun with superhero mythology.
It's inoffensive and sports a positive 'be yourself' message that’s obvious enough to be seen from space without benefit of hero-vision, but really, there's very little that's super about it.
It's definitely for the kids, but there's enough in it to make it a watchable diversion for the rest of us.
Sky High is not quite what it could have been, but its positive attributes manage to overcome the villainous forces of boredom and lameness.
'Sky High' includes enough funny scenes and colorful characters to hold the interest of adults and youngsters alike.
We've already had “The Incredibles,” “Harry Potter” and a half a dozen other films in similar veins over the past couple of years. We don't need this.
Bright colors contrast the usual superhero dark mode. That's a plus. But a script-by-committee turns Sky High into a John Hughes high school clone.
Smartly written and sprightly played, Sky High satisfies with a clever commingling of spoofy superheroics, school-daze hijinks, and family friendly coming-of-age dramedy.
