In the end, the movie's a clever idea and not much more.

Consensus: Despite the gimmicky feel of the split narratives, the movie is watch-able due to the winning performances by the cast.

She begins to live out two lives: if she had made the train, and if she hadn't. An intriguing concept about fate and how simple moments have the ability to change our lives. [More]

Reviews for Sliding Doors
One of the most purely pleasurable, delicious films currently available.
Paltrow is delightful as the trendy Londoner running parallel lives and has a disturbingly accurate English accent.
The script is shrewd and inventive, combining wit, romance, and intelligent melodrama into a crowd-pleasing whole.
Colorful and energetic, Sliding Doors balances its two stories with such smooth dexterity that is has no problem even overlaping them occasionally, just for fun.
Deft enough to keep you wondering whether it's going to end on Track A or Track B.
The parallel storylines lend an originality that most other romantic comedies lack
Take a supernatural premise, sap cinematic magic of any kind and the result is Sliding Doors.
What makes the film so unique and rather thought-provoking is how it holds true to the idea of chance while at the same time subscribing to that of destiny.
Gwyneth Paltrow is engaging as the two Helens, and I have no complaints about her performance. Pity about the screenplay.
This should go down a storm with folks who still cherish the hope that the solution to all their problems is just around the corner or in the next lift.
A clever and satisfying comedy that comes as a blissful relief from more high-minded festival fare.
Ultimately, Sliding Doors becomes a victim of its own cleverness, shutting down all that early promise.
Having to witness the doomed romance between Lynch and Paltrow play out twice over is nothing if not dull, as the events unfold with little nuance and few surprises.
Once the movie throws in a jolting, late-in- the-game plot twist that could have been borrowed from City of Angels, it never regains its balance.
With a pleasing balance of romance, comedy and drama, Sliding Doors is an exceedingly original story that appeals to both the heart and mind.
Unique concept and plot execution, this movie offers many good points, including solid acting, a painfully effective poppy soundtrack, humor, romance, and many insights into the minds of women and the men who cheat on them.
As long as we continue to find movies there as delightful and breezy as Sliding Doors, I'll be satisfied.
a clever conceit, but it's one that eventually wears out its welcome.
