The latest from the director of Trainspotting, Millions, and Sunshine

Fox Searchlight has passed along new images from this fall's Slumdog Millionaire, the latest film from director Danny Boyle (Trainspotting, Millions), about an illiterate Mumbai street kid who wins the jackpot on India's version of "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?" game show. Check them out here!

Director Danny Boyle has amassed quite the varied filmography over the years, ranging from early films like Trainspotting and The Beach to the more recent 28 Days Later and Millions. His latest project, Slumdog Millionaire, follows the mysterious case of an Indian street orphan (Dev Patel) who wins the grand prize on a game show in order to reconnect with a lost love -- but was it all blind luck, or was he cheating?

The official synopsis:

SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE is the story of Jamal Malik, an 18 year-old orphan from the slums of Mumbai, who is about to experience the biggest day of his life. With the whole nation watching, he is just one question away from winning a staggering 20 million rupees on India's "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?"

But when the show breaks for the night, police arrest him on suspicion of cheating; how could a street kid know so much? Desperate to prove his innocence, Jamal tells the story of his life in the slum where he and his brother grew up, of their adventures together on the road, of vicious encounters with local gangs, and of Latika, the girl he loved and lost. Each chapter of his story reveals the key to the answer to one of the game show's questions.

Intrigued by Jamal's story, the jaded Police Inspector begins to wonder what a young man with no apparent desire for riches is really doing on this game show?

When the new day dawns and Jamal returns to answer the final question, the Inspector and sixty million viewers are about to find out...

Slumdog Millionaire is written by Simon Beaufoy, who also co-wrote this year's Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day and earned an Oscar nomination for The Full Monty. Beaufoy's script is adapted from the international best-selling novel Q and A, by Indian diplomat and novelist Vikas Swarup.

Fox Searchlight and Warner Bros. will open Slumdog Millionaire in limited release November 28, 2008.

Danny Boyle never ceases to amaze me. You never know what to expect with each new flick.

yeah this excites me. i have really enjoyed everything he has done that I have seen, minus the last 45 minutes of 'sunshine' which just felt so forced

Totally with you, whitebare. Sunshine went waaaaay downhill way fast for me. But I'm intrigued by Slumdog Millionaire.

for me, it was when they started battling sun-man that sunshine fell apart. i was mesmerized by that movie until then.

this certainly sounds strange...not that that is some big surprise being a Danny Boyle directed movie...i like the guy quite a bit, but I was never actually a fan of Trainspotting and I really didn't like Sunshine that much. Loved the Beach and 28 Days Later, however....maybe I just like Alex Garland...

I don't like everything the guy does, but as time goes on and I see more and more of his films that I love- I've really begun watching him.

Even when the films don't blow me away, I still can't help but notice just how solidly, smartly and inventively they're made.

Even the awkward ending of Sunshine is still very fascinating. It didn't quite work, but it was still a very smart, interesting take on things.

I've really become a fan (I need to go back and see trainspotting again- after all the hype I was a little indifferent the first time). I'm looking forward to this one. I can't wait for a trailer.

BTW- My feature "Into the Arms of Strangers" is now available on DVD at Netflix, amazon and some other places!!!

I would say about sunshine that is what happens when exposed to the sun. Danny Boyle is a great director Trainspotting 28 days this sounds like its right up his alley his take on Zombies was brilliant it was a human story they were just there anyway what are you ganna say it's kind of like leaving Sick Boy and a kid you care about on the floor with a bag full of money while they sleep Boyle lives his life films what he wants to so way cool
I will see it it seems like an obvious revolution against the cast system in India great idea

How come everyone has to dis Sunshine? Sunshine was an awesome movie, and I don't think the "sun man" came out of nowhere. It seemed like the action was building toward it.

But, anyway, I love Danny Boyle's movies. 28 Days later was fantastic (best Zombie movie ever, next to Night of the Living Dead), and I'll look forward to anything he has coming up next. Even if it's not as high-stakes (life and death) as most of his previous movies.
