Five Favourite Films with Golden Globe-Winner Danny Boyle
by Joe Utichi and Jen Yamato | January 09, 2009
Blog Article | Discuss Article
Summary

After sweeping the Critics' Choice Awards this week, visionary and eclectic director Danny Boyle shares his five favourite films with Rotten Tomatoes. As you'd expect from his body of work, they're diverse and disparate. "I've got an odd list," he told RT. "Things like your 'top films' or your 'top end playlist songs' -- these are the things that keep me awake at night." Back to Article

Haha bethehero, you're a clown.

28 Days Later, Sunshine, Slumdog Millionaire (currently at 94% on the TM, and one of the best films of the year).

I'd say loads of people care.

What a list!

FYI Danny Boyle is one of the most interesting and diverse directors out there today, and shouldn't be ignored. Who would think to follow up a creepy sci-fi epic like Sunshine with Slumdog Millionaire? He is a national treasure.

I'm so pleased Wallace & Gromit is on there, i've maintained for years that the final sequence is one of the most exhilarating action sequences ever committed to film. Not only is it breath-takingly paced and crazily inventive (the infinite train-tracks, penguin in a bottle), but it is also hilarious and nerve-shredding to boot. Bravo Nick Park.

Plus any list with Apocalypse Now floats my boat. BEST. ACTION. EVER.

This is a good list, one of the best i have seen in a while.

Nicely done.

Somehow, little as I know of Danny Boyle, I just can't imagine him making oscar bait. Looking at his resume of films, he clearly marches to the beat of his own drummer.

I've seen the Bicycle Thief and I have to say that I liked some of Danny Boyles movies better than that particlar film. As I was watching the BT I felt the boy was kind of a burden to the father who was looking for his bike which is used to provide for his family. It's still interesting to see what he's been watching though.

Danny Boyle is fantastic....everything he does is brilliant in at least some way and he seems to juggle different genres as easily as breathing. I mean, he made a "zombie" horror film that, in my opinion, had oscar worthy performances and cinematography. He made a film about strung out drug adicts an absolute blast. The guy is a genius. I can definitely see the Apocalypse Now influence in his work for sure, also happens to be my favorite movie of all time.

Boyle has made some fantastic films, but he is also incredibly overrated.
Slumdog is fantastic, but definitely not the best picture of the year. Everyone just loves the little indie that could, even if its shot like a fake foreign film with an extremely Western construct and predictable outcome. Sure, glorious, heartwarming film... but is not on the same level as most Best Picture winners.

Still, I think this man has a better film in there somewhere, and pulls off a pretty BAMF list (not a W&G fan myself, but I can certainly respect the choice).

Danny Boyle is very underrated. I just saw Slumdog last night, and I would be happy if either it or Milk won best picture. Definitely worthy of it. Sure it's very Classic Hollywood Style but it's fantastic storytelling with very original direction. I highly suggest people seeing it. And you never see good acting with kids, but the kids in Slumdog are really great.

I can't say I've seen "Sunshine" or "trainspotting", but I REALLY enjoyed his 2004 film "Millions" and was very shocked when that got ZERO nominations at the Oscars the following year, especially considering how similar it is to this year's Slumdog Millionaire (which will probably get nominated for a bunch of Oscars this year), which is also very enjoyable and very, very similar to "Millions"

Over these past two films (Slumdog and Sunshine) Danny Boyle has emerged as one of my favorite film makers today. The was he genre-hops is very interesting. I honestly like every one of his films. I even enjoy the terribly tomatometered The Beach. The cinematography is superb. And obviously Trainspotting and 28 Days Later. Sunshine is ridiculously underrated. Slumdog seems like it is going to get the credit it deserves though.

There isn't one movie of his I didn't enjoy. His weakest being The Beach (Critically) was still a well put together movie. Also Cosmin I. if you were referring to 28 Weeks later, it wasn't Boyle it was Fresnadillo, and I don't know if Danny is going to do 28 Months Later. Some people don't like genre hoppers but I think Boyle does it well. 28 Days later in 2002 only to follow it up with Millions (which I just watched) in 2004. Kudos to you Danny and keep up the good work.

PS: Like the list, Wallace and Gromit rule.

This guy definitely likes to toot his own horn. Some obvious choices for obvious reasons, don't you think?

By the way, we get it, you like action. You don't have to repeat it over and over and over and over again. And I'm sorry, but Trainspotting is inferior to Requiem for a Dream. Trainspotting had way too much voice-over. Boyle didn't know how to adapt a book into a movie.

Will people please stop referring to "28 Days Later" as a Masterpiece. It is so goddamn mediocre. Not only that all it did is influence an array of terrible zombie flicks to come with laser speed fast zombies who remind me more of the creatures of Cronenberg's "Rabid". At best they remind me of that terrible movie from the 80's "Demons".

Danny is a genius, one of the best directors. Sunshine, Trainspotting, 28 days later, Slumdog, the beach all brilliant films. How often can you say the same director creates such masterpieces, from all types of genres, and he does not sway into the limelight of Hollywood, he seems to be put of by hugely action packed messy films, and focuses on what films actually mean.
