"Aquaman" Trailer!
From the creators of "Smallville" comes a new series that most likely won't ever see the light of day, mainly because its price-tag was a little too steep, but also because of all the confusion regarding the amalgamation of UPN and The WB. But a trailer for "Aquaman: Mercy Reef" made it onto the internet, so click right here to have a look.
Garth from Dark Horizons explains it a lot better than I do: "Developed by "Smallville" creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, the pilot had the likes of Justin Hartley in the title role along with well known actors like Ving Rhames and Lou Diamond Phillips in supporting parts. The show, which was originally developed at The WB before it merged with UPN, was expected to be a shoe-in for newly created The CW network - that was until last week.
When The CW announced its new Fall shows line-up on Thursday, no sign of the show (alternately titled "Mercy Reef" or simply "The Reef") existed - only one 'family on the run' drama entitled "Runaway" made it into the final line-up. A surprise but not unexpected, a high concept genre series like "Aquaman" is expensive to produce which is not a welcome idea for a smaller network."
Anyone disappointed by the Aquaman pre-cancellation?

on May 22 2006 04:49 AM Yeah... pity, it looked like entertaining TV and quite a refreshed version of Aquaman, as Smallville was for Superman... (Reply to this) |

on May 22 2006 04:53 AM Yay? The main character sort of looks like a tool, but that's what I thought about Tom Welling too at first. The first season will most likely be pretty bad, but there looks like there's some good material there, so it may turn out to be a good show after all. (Reply to this) |

on May 22 2006 06:51 AM If the show turned out to be anything like the Aquaman episode of Smaville, then good riddance. Keep in mind that these same two guys brought us the awful Birds of Prey series. Not everything they touch is golden. One need only look at the last couple seasons of Smallville to see that, though I will admit that this season is better than the unmitigated disaster of last season. (Reply to this) |

on May 22 2006 07:57 AM CW is goig to SUCK According to www.epguides.com the UPN and WB dropped 6 and 10 shows respectively. That makes 16 shows total! What are they going to show? Smallville was a gigantic success. But as hunduchocolate stated, Birds of Prey was terrible. This would be a huge risk, but with the creating staff that of Smallville, I think it could be better than Birds, but not better than Smallville. I think it was a bad move by CW to not pick this up. Maybe Fox will. They will show anything. Life on a Stick, Stacked, Johnny Zero anyone? (Reply to this) |

on May 22 2006 11:58 AM bah, i'm not mourning the demise of "Mercy Reef," it sounded like a horrible idea to begin with. make a TV show out of one of the worst superheroes ever created, starring an actor with as much thespian talent as a young Dolph Lundgren (and looking very much like Lundgren to boot)? no thanks, i'll pass. my question is, when the hell is someone with enough ingenuity and smarts going to make a live-action Batman series, maybe a Year: One kind of thing? it can be dark and mature, and HBO could likely handle the expensive budget. now THAT would kick some serious ass. on May 22 2006 05:35 PM Mercy me. I actually thought it looked very promising and even though Aquaman is generally the hero that gets ridiculed, I think it's because he works better on screen than he does on paper. Come on people, it has Ving Rhames and L.D.P. Ving alone is a HUGE addition. (Reply to this) |

on May 22 2006 06:46 PM It kinda looked fine as a stand-alone movie. But making an entire series out of it would be stretching it. Reminds me of the Simpsons and their mockery of knightrider, i.e., knightboat. There's always a lake or river or fjord..... (Reply to this) |

on May 22 2006 10:57 PM looks like fish poo. why does EVERY freakin show have to star people that look like 90210 or OC rejects? (Reply to this) |
